350Z

Still looking for a replacement my zed - still not convinced that I've parted company with BMW but had another look at a 350z coupe that came up locally - was considering one before I bought the zed - it really is an awesome machine ie big, powerful , in your face image. Thirsty as hell ( 24mpg ) but its a toy not a daily driver . This one was a 2007 than means £470 tax !!!! Ouch !!! but prior to 2006 is only £270 .

Worth pursuing ?

No one could describe this outrageous machine as a hairdresser's car !!

I test drove a couple of them before opting for the Zed.

I liked the V6 engine note and the steering (unlike Zed's electric one). The Fairlady is and feels heavier, as if with more inertia, which may be good if you're into drifting, but in the wet, I feel more confident in the Zed, which is lighter and feels more precise. Also, the Datsun's porker weight seems to affect the ride quality.

These are just my impressions. Anyway, the interior quality and mgp put me off.

I almost went for one before getting the Z4, however my friend sent me a text saying the following:

'Seb, I've owned 3 main cars in my life, a 206, a 350Z and a 320D, these are the time periods I owned them for - 3 years, 3 years, 4 months. Guess which one was the 350Z"

Sufficed to say, he loved the car at the start, but the consumption was awful and he said it felt/looked like it was an even worse build quality than his '04 plate 206...!

I test drove one but opted for the ///M. Three factors for me:

1. Thought the rear was ugly with the roof down
2. Roof folds in two parts. Thought that was a receipe for trouble (so I bought a Zed cus their roofs are sooo reliable!?!)
3. Interior looked cheap

That said, it was fun to drive. I hope to have many more miles in my Zed. But when the time comes, I'll be looking at how a 370z compares.

There is only one jap sports car I would swop zed for might look at one,but need too win the lot first. 8)

From what I,ve read the Nissan has a Renualt V6?

Not strictly so - the engine is of Japanese origin, although it is featured in different cars across the Renault/Nissan/Infiniti range. But anyway, I remember that in the dearly departed Vel Satis the engine head was different.

The engine in the 350z is pretty bullet proof, with the only minus being the camshaft bearings prone to seizing up due to insufficient lubrication.

ahhhhhh right

The 350Z is a nice car for what it is. The only thing, I don't like about it, is the tinny exhaust note. The Z4 is a better car all round though. Better put together, lighter, more agile, much nicer place to spend a journey and it sounds fabulous.

Weird. I know a guy with the same car history and ownerships periods of each. Does this guy own a 335d now?

Anyway, the person above had quite a few problems with his. From reading on forums he seemed to get the impression that all the pre 2006 cars had a few problems.

Personally I really like the coupe. I thought about it when I bought my Z4 but I wanted a roadster and the rear on the roadster 350 just looks wrong.

He does, saw him yesterday with it! We were both original members of the 206info owners club about 6 years ago!

Had a 2007 350z coupe for a year good drivers car . Interior better in later cars . Engines are good . A few with oil consumption issues on rev up 296 bhp engine . Early cars can have clicky rear axles . Gear chatter quite common as on z4 when in neutral . Fuel consumption quite poor though . Perfomance wise about same as n52 3.0si . Post 57 plate H R engined one would be my preference ( coupe only ) GT pack .Some like to knock nissan but I found if you get past the badge the 350 z. Is as good a drivers car (if not better than the z4) .Just my impressions .

I know him from e90post. Dave (mega).

Had '09 roadster from new for 3 years and loved it! Took it on a 3 week trip round Europe and it didn't miss a beat. Love the Zed more though – more agile and feels like a proper sports car.
