350z or Z4 ?

Before I finally opted for my zed ( 3.0 ) I almost bought a Nissan 350z mostly because of their rarity ( down here on the iow anyway ). When I drove the 350z it felt quite awesome in a muscle car sort of way and it was a more practical coupe version. In the end however I opted for the bmw roadster because of its stunning looks and because to me ( without meaning any disrepect to coupe owners ) a true sports car should be an open top. Mine is a weekend toy and I'm lucky enough to be able to keep it in a garage. I took it out this morning and gave it a bit of welly ( as much as you can down here ) and it felt as quick as the 350z but a lot more refined. On paper they are about the same performance - is the zed quicker or not?

I struggled with the exact same decision before buying my zed, I think the 350 is slightly quicker, in a drag race anyway but its very marginal. I never drove the 350 but after sitting inside one I new I much prefered the z4. I think the interior quality and better mpg swung it for me in the end but I know now I definately made the right decision.

I believe the 350z coupe is slightly quicker than the 3.0i Z4. It certainly has more power, but also more weight.

The 350z roadster went on a pie diet as a result of shedding its roof, and weighs even more, and is therefore slightly slower and less agile.

EDIT - They use far more fuel than the Z4, and you'd be lucky to get more than 24mpg :o

I drove my father-in-laws once.... nice drive, but I prefer the z4.

as for which is quicker... probably more down to the driver than the car...

Not to be a brand snob, but one is a Nissan, the other is a BMW.
On these cars, it shows - the build and interior quality is just much better on the Z4.

I looked at both and have a friend with a 350Z.
Don't get me wrong, the 350Z is a good car and looks great.
I just don't think it touches the Z4...

I had a 350z GT pack for 5 years/50,000 miles before getting the Z4m a year ago.

The 350z felt much heavier and much bigger and was a superb long range cruiser whilst also quick on B roads, but definitely not as quick as the Z4m nor as much fun to drive, especially on B roads.

Service costs were a lot less on the 350z even if every 9000 miles and it ran through a full set of 4 tyres every 12-13,000 miles!

Fuel consumptions pretty much the same for me. Practicality? there's not much in it.

Would I go back to a Nissan??

Possibly for the 370z roadster, though I'd start getting grief at work about driving a Datsun again  so I'll stick with the Z4mr

I've owned both and i prefered the 350Z. There wasnt much in it but a few things were...

I like my JAP cars, all my mates prefered the 350 and said it was more me.
The 350 was a more raw experience, i felt the Z4 too refined.
Have always loved the looks of both but think the Z4 just swings it.
350 is alot rarer around here and has a more wow factor.
Interior wise i like the 350Z better.
Hated the RFT's on the Z4.
350 would let you play more with the traction control on and felt alot more stable(again down to the RFT's)
Z4 did turn in much better, the 350 has a big rear end.

I've been very tempted to get another Z4/350Z with current prices so low and the 11mpg around town (40 on a run) and £400+ road tax doesnt put me of the 350Z but the ride of a Z4 on RFT's puts me of owning another and mine at only 2 years old had 2 jobs done on warranty where as the 350Z was bullet proof.

ps. Yes i know you can change the RFT's

The 350z was on my shopping list but I looked at running cost and the z4 won out on everything, lower tax, lower insurance, better economy, tyres last longer, smaller but lighter, better boot practicality. In the end I plumped for the z4m,same tax, insurance and petrol costs as the 350 but faster and better looking- happy chappy.

I had an 03 350z Grand Touring and while it was a nice car and quite a bit faster then my Z4 I prefer my 2.5i to the 350z in every aspect. The roadster version of the Nissan just looks horrible with the top up where the Z4 looks great either way. In the states I see 350Zs everywhere. When I had mine I noticed there were 3 of them with the same color that lived less then a mile away alone.

Guess I asked for this but it is only my interpretation of a sports car - wind in your hair ( if you're lucky enough to have any !!! )

Only a bit of fun! :D And I don't have any hair as it happens, started receding before I left school so did the decent thing and keep it VERY short these days. No comb-overs here...

Funnily enough I considered a 350 prior to buying the Zed, was put off by the cheap interior and the boot space. Still think they're nice cars though.

Wish I had the courage to cut my hair short - plenty at the sides and back but a bit sparce on the top - a bit like Basil Fawlty - in fact when I was younger my kids friends thought I really was John Cleese. Imagine Basil driving a Z4 or worse thrashing one with a bush! I shaved my moustache off once and my daughter wouldn't speak to me for 3 days !

The 350Z is a fine car, but a little too tubby for my liking. My next door neighbour and work colleague drives one, so we have regular fun on the run to the office. When I had my Fiat Coupe 20Vt the two cars were about even with the 350Z eventually pulling out a few yards above 3 figures. First and every time we compared notes (So to speak) 350Z vs Z4MR there is a considerable difference in favour of the Z4M.

:driving: On a lighter note I passed a 350Z up the main straight at Spa, he follow me down the hill & Just when I was starting to think I couldn't drive he crashed it. (pride hurt, just a few tire wall marks on the bumper). I laughed so hard I nearly bought a coupe.
