35 or 40 on the Tyres?

I need some new rear rubber, searching around on the usual sites it is apparent the 35 depth is quite a bit cheaper than tyres at 40.

the current rears are 40 but they seem to recommend 35 for the z4m. I am confused - can anyone shed some light? what would you recommend? is they a difference between 35 and 40?

Lots of info for you to read here: http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp?type=tires_general and this is a useful tool http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

FYI stock sizes for the M are 225/45-18 front and 255/40-18 rear.

This is a size comparison between a 255/40-18 and a 255/35-18 tire.

The higher profile on the Z4M really spoils the look. Can't think of any good reason for them not to follow suit of the 3.0 profiles, unless they are hoping to make it ride a little softer.

They'd have to change the gearing to give you the same in gear performance, otherwise you'd be bouncing off the limiter if you tried to do 60mph in 2nd :P

I'm of the opposite view, as I think some tyres just look too thin and don't provide any protection to the rim at all.

To add to this, the only way you could have 35 profile tyres without affecting gearing / speedo etc would be to use 19" wheels. That way the rolling circumference would be kept the same.
