Also considering some new wheels. Preferably 19s.

Had a look on fleabay and appears the E90 335 rims will fit the E85.

What do we reckon of these.......

Anyone seen any fitted to a Z or better still have any pics of them fitted? I have a hunch they will look superb in light of their shape in relation the Z's!

Are you sure about the ride they will give. Once you get above 18" then ride does start to deteriorate and indeed performance is affected. Lots of threads about this with diffeent opinions that my be worth a read.

Hi All,

On the subject of ride and handling with 19's. I recently replaced my standard 17's with run flats for 19's with non-run flat tyres. Although there is some more roughness in the ride, its minimal vs. what the ride was like with the run-flats.

Overall I'm very pleased, the improved appearance of the car, and slight improvement in grip is more than worth the very slightly hasher ride. Plus, the additional bonus is that with the correct off-set there is absolutely no rubbing.

On the subject of 335 wheels, I'd closely inspect the off-sets as I dont believe they will be a close enough fit to go on with no rubbing.

I like them, if they fit i think it would be a nice wheel for the Z, especially as the spokes twist and match some of the flame surfacing on the car itself.

As for the ride, i cant see how 19" normal tyres can be any worse than that of run-flat 18's.

As for performance, i cant really see how the slight increase is going to effect it greatly, if at all. Other people have 19's and seem to have had no problems, so i would go for it mate if the price is right !

I'm not for one minute saying it's the final deciding factor, but there is a significant drop off in performance as the rim weight goes up and the distance of the mass from the centre of rotation. This has been confirmed in ride harshness above by someone who's made the step and aside that there is decreased acceleration and poorer braking - only marginal but it's there as you spin up that mass. Interestingly all the gains of moving to non RF just about offset it the harshness.

When you add that the rim offset may create rubbing issues, it's a serious set of consideration to change to what is undoubtably a pretty cool looking rim.

I only ever tell it how I see it and am ageing, so like some comfort with my style

Well I'm an old fart and I say screw ride quality, if you like them and they fit then go for it!!

Don't blame me if you hate it though!

Thanks for the input all.

Yes, I had consdiered the impact of increasing the rim size, albeit as others have said upon changing to non runflats the ride change from 18s should be minimal. The weight issue is also may also be worthy of consideration, but yet again this is a price I am prepared to pay.

To be honest, my primary concern is what the thing would look like with them fitted.

Are there any Photoshop wizards lurking that could assist? If so, thanks in advance!

Ok, here you go. Apologies its not 100%, but didnt have much time. Size wise its dead on, as i used an image of a Z with 19's already on.

Well since looks are the primary concern then they are not too shabby. I actually like them (nothing like as much as 108's...) but they look OK.

Just need to check the J sizing and offset to see if there are likely to be any rubbing issues.

Someone on Z4um fitted them onto a pre-facelift roadster, I thought I maybe had pics but can't find them now. They looked awesome anyway FWIW

Not bad. But looks too OEM. If the OEM look is your goal then it works. Personally if I were to spend any money on wheels I'd want them to stand out (in a good way, of course) & go aftermarket.

Regarding ride quality with 19"s fitted they are definately no worse than a car fitted with the 18"s and run flats. I swapped my standard 18"s with a set of CSL reps with normaly tyres and the ride improved. I then upgraded these to a set of 19"s with non run flats and the difference between these and the 18"s is barely noticeable.

Thats running 225/40/18"s 255/35/18"s (run flats and non runflats) and then 235/35/19"s and 265/30/19"s

J.

Thanks for the pic Easty. :)

Hmmm, not sure to be honest. Think moew pics may be the order of the day.

The front and rear bumpers are the aero ones, but are the sills on that car standard?

Dunno, its a toss up between 900 sheets on those or stick to the 108s (which I've just replaced the rear runflats  ).
