326M Tyre Help

Hi Guys

Been looking to ditch the run flats for a while now in favour of pilot 4s
i have the revised slightly stronger 326 alloys but still want some protection and less twitchy handling
i have been thinking of changing the rear profile but cant find a definitive answer.
People talk about increasing the width giving a slightly higher side wall , but if i do the rear do i need to increase the fronts ?
Fronts i was thinking i'd stick with the 225/35/19 @ £193.51 each
Rear standard size 255/30/19 are £23.22 each Giving £798.80 for the set with current blackcircles offer

if i swap out to 255/35/19 to give the rims more protection @ £184.99 its £654.26 for the set

will i get any sensor issues or any other unforeseen issues as its a good saving.

or is the increase in width on both axles the best way of protecting the rims

Thanks in advance for the help

I think the idea of a ‘later’ 326m is a myth..I’ve not found any documentation to support that idea..please share..

It’s best to have rolling radius front and rear within 2%.most suggest better than 1.5% otherwise RFM and other DSC functions could be impaired in unforeseen/unpredictable ways..your call..

235/35 19 and 265/30 19 is a logical improvement FWIW

People do run 255/35 19 and people talk positively about it..

Been trying to find the post i had seen ,probably me wishing i had the revised profile....
Remember seeing a picture of the rear of the wheel showing a larger step at the back edge that aparently was a way identifying the revision.

BMW convention is to issue a new part number or a revision number to a part number as a part is revised for whatever reason..

Realoem only lists a single part number..happy to be proven wrong

Think that might be the 296’s your thinking of. I’ve late 326’s still cracked after minimal mileage

Top one is revised/later wheel

Increase in width might offer a bit more protection from kerbing, but an increase in profile should offer more protection from potholes!

My Z4 had 255/40 x 18 rear tyres as standard but I went up to 255/45 x 18 for a bit more ride quality, and have had no sensor or other issues.
And they fill the arches a bit better. :)

Hi Op, I’m running 255/35/19 Goodyear non runflats on my rear 326 alloys with no issues. Also running them with 36psi which takes a little bit more of the harshness out of the ride.

If looking for a higher side wall for more protection how about swapping the whole 19 inch wheel/tyre combination for 18 inch per Mr Tidy? Need to get new wheels obviously but has anyone gone this route?
