326 M cracked- advice needed

Sorry- I know this has been covered in part elsewhere but I need some advice. The 35is went in for its very first MOT and 2nd service last Friday. Got a call from Stephen James BMW that afternoon and I have a cracked 19 inch near side 326 M alloy wheel. They will be checking the radial distortion today and if it falls outside of a certain amount it will not be covered by warranty....

Reason given "you have probably driven over a pothole at some point and cracked the wheel without knowing......"

I had all four wheels refurbed 4 weeks ago as I am selling the car in about 1 month. The chap who refurbed the wheels (I know him well and trust him) said he found no defects in any of the wheels and I know for a fact I have not driven into a super deep pothole in that time period.

Feel rather depressed as I think I am going to be hit with another large bill from Stephen James BMW just when I don't need it (Cayman 718S arriving in 8 weeks).

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers JC :D

Not good :headbang: are you trading in the z4 ? I think a rear 326 is about £500 :( Get it welded if it's getting traded. BMW might replace it. I know they did reduce the runout, due to lots of claims. here's hoping

Thanks guys. Still haven't heard a pip! Will just wait but I know the culture of the stealers rather too well (not to slate any good dealers though!).

My dilemma now is that this problem will now be entered onto the MOT fail document which surely means welding is out? I will try and look on ebay as suggested (thanks). The painful part is that I paid to have this cracked wheel refurbished only 4 weeks ago-it looks immaculate :( :( :(

Oh well, will keep update when I hear anything. Currently falling asleep in the courtesy 218i which is incredibly quiet and comfy but difficult to remain awake in...

Cheers again

Got a call few hours ago. Was told they had ordered a new wheel which should be arriving tomorrow morning... this was the opening salvo.... I assumed this meant that I had been covered by warranty..... silly me.... so bad to assume anything.... I am then told that they will assess and compare the issue with the tyre (which is incidentally only 4 months old) on the both rims.... is this right?

I did ask why they had ordered a new wheel and was told politely that either way I needed a new wheel whether this issue was under warranty or not. A somewhat arrogant presumption?

Mmmmmmmmmmm...... not happy! :(

Oh well guess I will know tomorrow. Trying to stay positive.

:D :D :D

Great news! Was covered under warranty, phew! :trampoline: a bit of good luck finally from my dealership. Thank you all for your words of reassurance.

Now I have to sell the darn thing or trade it in! Will be sorry to see her go and will definitely miss the open top driving I think.

Cheers JC :D

These E89s seem to a nightmare for wheel issues, until I read this thread I thought it was just confined to the type 296.

The later 326's where reengineered 2012/2013 I still think anything Will crack running 19" rfts on British roads horrible things.
