£30k E86 at Sytner BMW

It's a marketing exercise

No it isn't.....it's a 'let's put it out there for silly money and see if we get a mug who bites. What's the worst that can happen?' exercise.

Car dealers aren't clever enough to know what 'marketing' is; they only see pound notes (or coins).

The strange thing is that quite often they DO get a bite; presumably from people who have more money than sense.
It's a sign of the times; too many people earn (or get) too much money. The world of 'hard earned' has been almost lost IMO.

It does look amazing but seriously expensive.
I’d want to see the underside of the car too and even if it was all mint I’d be negotiating a serious chunk off that price.
They would just say how rare it is and there is probably not another available like it. Which is true.
I’m sure it will sell to some wealthy collector.

You obviously don't understand marketing. The fact we are talking about it means it has worked.

Good press, bad press, attention is key. Been doing this for nearly 20 years and this is exactly what this is. Whether it sells or not.

I dont know why everyone is upset, dealers setting prices can help you earn more off your own.

If WBAC sets the trade in then my Z4M is worth like 4k.

Agree Tom, car dealerships (as opposed to “dealers”) have very sophisticated marketing techniques. True, it is all about monetising the brand, which at the end of the day is pound notes.

WBAC can be daft on prices. For a laugh I put my 14000 mile completely original NSX into the valuer. I got back £6000. That’s about 6% of the actual sale value based on recent auction sales of similar. So for one offs don’t go there. I regret the decision as they keep on bombarding me with emails to turn up to the Didcot branch for them to look it over and give me £4500! If I am lucky.

I know it’s Sytner now but Rybrook Warwick used to have a good reputation and the chap who owned it was into his BMW’s - he had a few of his cars on display in Warwick which were always nice to see especially given how hideous modern BMW’s are. It kind of set them apart from other dealers in my mind so that worked.

How ever silly the price.

Its nice to see E85/E86s getting good press, whether thats positive reviews or good prices on the market. They have long been underated and really great cars for what else is available and fair play to BMW to continue to fight against the might of the box/cay.

Considering they have had a hammering most of the time they have been around and its only a small niche of people that like and appreciate them. It was only the other day I was reading a pistonhead post about a Z4MR and there were a lot of comments from people who had owned them and said they were one of the worst cars they had owned. To me this is baffling as we all know with a bit of fettling they offer a very unique proposition that holds its own against a lot of other exotica in a very low volume rare product.

I find these kinds of posts humorous as we all want these to be appreciated, the majority of members are owners. When put in the limelight, they are heckled for being ridiculous.

Doesnt really make sense on a forum dedicated to these cars.

The Z4M certainly seems to divide opinion and I assume that many of those who don’t get on with them haven’t changed the alignment etc.

The Z4 in general seems pretty under appreciated and the Cayman / Boxster remain the default for many despite the potential issues which are often glossed over despite being worse than many BMW issues.

The purpose of this car has done exactly what Sytner wanted I guess.?
I've since searched Google for 'Sytner Used Cars' and then browsed their selection to find the Coupe.

(then very quickly departed after I found myself looking at ugly, modern, expensive stuff)

For £30k you think they’d put some new bmw caps on the alloys, maybe even new discs and pads?

Im sure for their asking price they would put right any little bits n bobs a buyer wanted especially with that margin of profit.
No one is obliged to buy it so I'm sure they will sit it out and wait for that future owner to come along.
Personally if I had that kind of spare cash I'd happily buy it and just use it.
In my opinion, a new Toyota Corolla costing £30k (insane money of an average new car albeit a Hybrid engine) or this beautiful Z3 Coupe costing the same is a no brainer. Having something special/different appeals to me.

And it's one of those silly hardtops rather than a proper sports car. At that price I would want something where you could at least enjoy open top motoring.

I think E85/86 will become more desirable in time. I think they are at the very bottom of the curve now with many now firmly in banger territory in many people’s eyes. Surprisingly the Boxster seems to have fended this off but even so prices for early ones are only just increasing from a nearly equivalent low point. And I think we must remember that PH is used by loads of people who might not know what they are talking about. Just saying….I read it for a laugh though not for sensible discussion about cars!

Hope you're right, mate. I am toying with selling my '03 E85 with lots of extras and only 56k on the clock, so if it comes to it (after 10+ years of devotion), I'll be keeping a very close eye on how the values progress..... Then again, with luck, I'll be hanging onto it for a little while longer. :oldman:
