£29,750 for a bog standard (albeit nice and very low mileage) E86

No Xenon lights, cruise control or heated seats.

Having a laugh aren’t they?

You know that modern saying of "mileage is king"?

You see a few cars like this which seem to be massively over-priced, but they often sell. There was a Z3 quite recently being sold by a BMW dealer. It was mega bucks (around the same price as that E86 IIRC) and wasn't special apart from the low miles. It sold quite quickly much to everyone's amazement.

Aimed at very specific people who probably had one back in the day but want that box fresh 20 year old car. There is something to be said for that.

I get it but not for me. You can get a 30k Z4MC for that kind of money.

Amazing how times change I bought my first Z4M from Lloyd BMW in Carlisle in 2011 43k on a 56 plate paid £17.5k for it with a 2 year warranty. 14 years ago and toward the end of the recession.

That being said if we end up in another recession there will be a few bargains around!

Perished rubbers - not always. I bought a 6000 Mike Guzzi bike in 1986 when it was 5 years old. All the rubber stuff needed replacing. I have a 40 year old car and some of the rubbers have been replaced because I could but a lot hasn’t been simply because I can no longer find the hoses and “new silicone” providers just laugh at me as there is no market other than my car. And those hoses are still good. It’s all to do with his thd car has been treated. Left to humidity, large temperature variations and sunlight then yes it will age quickly. Left in the dark all okay. Yes I am a vampire.

But I have to agree that is a lot…. My ZMC was quite a bit less than that with not that much more mileage.

I'm with you. I'd argue this car might be better value that an 80k one for £12k.

80k for £12k is too much.

But if you were be wealthy and wanted the best of the best, this might be a decent buy at £30k.

WBAC thinks its an £8k car.... lets hope thats not what Sytner paid the previous owner for it.

They started advertising it at £35k.

Trade in value is £8000-8500.

If someone has traded that in they will have been stung. The garage still won't get near £30k for it.

That was my second thought (after laughing at the asking price) - I wonder how much they gave for it.

Even the most enamoured E86 enthusiast (Mr Tidy? :) ) would balk at near £30k.

I'd imagine it would be more likely to go to a multi-millionaire who fancies one for their car collection than an enthusiast.

It is a unicorn car for a unicorn buyer... they'd be lucky to get £15k from a "normal Z4 buyer", but maybe someone looking to spend £10k on a low miler would add £5k for one that is very very low miles. I think they have more chance of getting £30k from a unicorn buyer than £15k from a normal buyer.

Firstly it's a car dealership; they would have paid the bare minimum.
Secondly, it's Shytner.........they have a habit of asking ridiculous prices for unusual cars. Wait a few weeks, if it doesn't sell, it will be at some obscure auction somewhere.

My guess is they paid around £10k, as it is unusual so may have paid a bit more than bare trade.

Talk of the devil.

I'm not obsessed with mileage so would save myself a fortune by buying one that had been used a bit and wouldn't depreciate every time I put a 1,000 miles on it!

But if I was going to drop £30K on a Coupe this one looks like a much better idea:- https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202503180283401?sort=relevance&searchId=3bbdbed3-73ea-4047-ac4c-1601762c32c8&make=BMW&model=Z4%20M&page=2&postcode=gu470za&radius=1500&advertising-location=at_cars&fromsra

It's a marketing exercise - they've done the same with Z3’s before.

Not only does is create a talking point that draws attention to the dealership it also serves as the perfect reference point regarding longevity of the product for those customers about to drop a fortune on the latest grille infested obscenity

You think for 30k they'd fit the drivers side door handle pull before marketing it...

A colleague traded his Z4 coupe in against an M140i in 2018….they gave him £5k for it. Guessing they won’t have paid much for this either.

Lots of big dealers openly admit they use WBAC to underwrite their trade in offers so it’s usually a good quote as to what you might expect to get.
