30i rear tyre profile

Just moving this from an older thread.

My 30i currently has standard (RFT) 225/35/19 front and 255/30/19 rear, would there be any discernible difference running non run flat tyres with 35 profile on the rear instead of 30?

The main reason I ask is there is a wider range available in the 35 profile, also they should provide a little more protection to the larger alloys, they actually seem a bit cheaper too. But if anything would be compromised I’ll stick to the current sizes.

Anyone using the 35 profile rear tyre and can comment on how the set up performs?

Following written advice from Mr Wilks albeit to another member but asking the same question I now have have 235/35/19 front and 255/35/19 tears on a standard suspension set up 3.0l and it’s all good! Rims are copy 437M’s and in hindsight probably should have gone for a 265 or 275 on the rear as the rear rims do look very slightly under tyred compared to the front but no big deal, purely cosmetic and drives great compared to the old RFT set up.

The reps are most likely 9.5j rear so you can go 265 35 but i think that looks fine as it stands :? if you had a style 296 with its factory fir 255 30 19 tyre to gauge against it you would see the difference

That’s correct 9.5j rears.

The other factor with a 265 tyre is the cost rises dramatically against a 255 option

None at all, I have just done this on my 35i, a lot better ride, identical handling and use the same tyre pressures.. DO IT

Ive got 35s on the rear (Goodyear Eagle F1s) car feels more comfortable

OK cool - I am going to order the Goodyear F1 A5s in 255/35/19 for the rears while retaining 225/35/19 size for the front (in the same tyre), as all advice seem to indicate there’s no need to change to front size when fitting those 35 profile rears 👍
