30i engine power

Hi,

Just wondering the difference in the 3.0 in my 60 plate Z4, 258bhp and 5 series 272 bhp. Is it just a different map or are there different injectors etc involved? Just wondered as its always nice to have a couple more ponies.

Tanks in advance.

Different engine, the E60(post 07)/F10 5 series uses the N53 engine and the E89 Z4 uses the N52 engine, the same as the E85 and E86.

The real question is why does your E89 3.0i produce less BHP than the older E85/E86?!

The e60 5 series has used the M54, N52 and N53 3.0 engines at various stages of its life.

My guess for that one is the marketing department got involved all the engines are perfectly spaced power wise when i bought mine. 204, 258, 306 when you go up each engine from the 23i to the 30i to the 35i around 50bhp everytime. Providing it with the 272bhp version probably doesn't give enough of a performance diff to the 35i.
How much does the E85 3 litres have then?

Convert DIN metric horsepower to kW and it all makes sense.

136PS = 100kW (F20 116i)
170PS = 125kW (F20 118i)
184PS = 135kW (sDrive20i, F30 320i . . . )
204PS = 150kW (sDrive23i)
245PS = 180kW (sDrive28i)
258PS = 190kW (sDrive30i)
272PS = 200kW
306PS = 225kW (sDrive35i)
340PS = 250kW (sDrive35iS)

LOL there is a slight trend there. Thanks for that.

Ive wondered this aswell. I would guess it maybe down to induction. The E89 30i may produce less power than the E85 3.0si, but it sounds sooo much better :D
