Hi,

I have a 3000 miles road-trip around Europe in a months time. I bought a 2004 Z4 2.2L with 94,000 miles.

What would you service before leaving on a trip of this length, and what spares would you bring?

Currently planned:
- New brake lines as current are crusty
- New handbrake ratchet as current one does not hold car
- Possibly new brake pads on the front

- you will need 2x 1 litre of oil (my old 3.0 used to drink it every 1.5k & was supposedly within tolerances
- make sure your tyres are in good condition, in Germany believe it’s 2mm minimum
- either some tyre repair gunk or a puncture plug repair kit
- new windscreen wipers
- some gaffer tape, always useful for something
- a box of wet wipes for all the f’in flies
- an arrow on your dashboard pointing right that you can see in the reflection. That way every time you drive 1st thing in morning you’ll always be reminded
- if running Xénons, learn how to flick the switch for EU, halogens… good luck

  • Does your car insurance covers the EU fully comp or 3rd party only and do you need a 'green card'?
  • EU breakdown cover
  • GB UK number plate or sticker
  • Hi-vis vests (to be kept within arm's length)
  • Emissions vignette/Crit-Air sticker (for certain towns/cities/countries)
  • Headlight adjustment or beam rectifier stickers
  • Full service before you go
  • Local currency for bribes on-the-spot fines
  • Medical/travel insurance
  • Double-vaccination paper certificate

I thought GB stickers were already mandatory from 1st Jan 21

Green Cards, however, won’t be necessary anymore in Europe, nor GB stickers under certain conditions👍
