3 years old and keeping the Z4

My Z4 will be 3 years old at the end of April. I've taken out the extended BMW warranty. Just over £400. Not too bad a price for comprehensive.

Sign of the times that I am not renewing my car this time (normally sell when warranty runs out)! This means for the first time in years my main car will need an MOT come tax time!! :o :P

I had mine MOT'ed on Saturday. Local garage i normally use but although the car passed fine they did manage to f**k the E-brake during testing the brakes.

I had more lights on my dash board then a xmas tree!! luckily after a mile of 2 and a couple start/stops they all cleared fine.

Think next time i will just take it to BMW for its MOT.

I also renewed my warranty, £441 for a year comprehensive.

  Good Man. I've still got 5 months factory warranty left, but I've already arranged extended warranty after that for 12 months. I've been through a lot with this car, but I still love it, in fact the issues have probably made me love it more, weirdly. In any event, despite my wish to move to something like a 5 series GT, I can't justify yet another massive depreciation hit so I guess the Z is a keeper, for a fair while anyhow. At least if I get get rid in the next 18 months, its warranted which makes buyers feel better.

So, us early adopters should stick together, make the most of these fabulous albeit slightly quirky machines.. :driving: Enjoy!

I have a small Y reg 4x4 I use for general stuff like shopping, tip, carting mountainbikes around. It's almost on it's last legs so not sure what to do next. I'll keep the Z4 for another 12 months and rethink my options. I may go Evoque as that would negate the need for a 3rd car!
Mind you the wife has a MINI Cooper S so we may sell that for a MINI S Countryman all4 but that would mean I would be stuck with the Z4 in the snow!!

I'd always use a BMW dealer for MOT to start with I think.
Trouble is some dealers are a MOT station others take the car to A MOT Station but at least you get decent environment to wait :)

Is the extended warranty cost based on how many miles you have done?

Mine runs out in a year and still think I'll have mine too.....

I think this is personal preference.

Granted I've only once owned a car under 10 years old previously but I've never had any form of warranty, felt the need to take my car to a "dealer" or changed my car due to age (most of my cars have been over 10 years old).

I have 1 years AUC warranty on my Coupe when it expires I shall not renew it even with the VANOS issue looming over me, its just not worthwhile. The dealer just seems to make any excuse not to do anything / charge you for anything!

Sorry rant over.

I think it goes up after 60k but if you pay monthly dd it doesn't spike after 60k... I could be wrong though

Mine is 3 years old in just under 2 months and although I've carefully weighed up all my options, I'm probably going to keep it a bit longer. I also plan to extend the warranty and get it MOT'd at my BMW dealer.

I do genuinely believe there is nothing newer that's better than what I have. I do still very much love everything about it.

EDIT: yes, I have never MOT'd a car before either...!

GET IT DONE BEFORE the 3 year wty is up. This way any issues they will fix for free, other than breaks and disks which I got stuffed last year on my old z4.

They will also price match MOT.

I will keep mine past its 3 years and change within 6 months

PAY MONTHLY for the wty, I dont think it costs any more and like the past 3 zds I have owned I can cancel that month when I trade in.
