3 Warning Lights - Brakes/ABS/DSC

Just came on this evening. The manual says that the driving stability controls systems have failed :|

Is there a usual suspect for this? Is the car still safe to drive?

There have been three of these this week alone I think …

Note that your hill start no longer works nor the ABS whilst the lights are on.

Can be the DSC module ($$$ fro the dealer, or refurbed for a lot less) or ABS sensor. You really need to read the code form the system to know which one it is.

Oh, the joys of Z4 ownership... I've only had it a week!

Thanks for the quick reply, I was nervous about a 6 hr trip tomorrow.
Anyhow, went back out to the car and fired it up. Same lights... Tried the lock to lock waggle. Same lights. Reset tyre pressure sensor and drove off... no more Blackpool illuminations!

Now to create a new post with my next issue

I've noticed this happens more during the winter months.

I'd like to know if using a CTEK charger has any influence, as my three lights came on soon after purchasing one?

The reset with full lock left right worked on mine for a while but the lights came back eventually. Hope you have more luck with yours.

My concern was that using the charger without disconnecting the battery from the car I may of damaged the abs module somehow?

What is it exactly that ecu testing repair? Fried circuit?

..my apologies rickz4. I thought this was a continuation from another thread. ECU testing will repair your ABS module if this problem returns. You'll need fault codes to determine for sure.

Hence me stating that there was an influx of this problem during the last week or so. Easily confused between the same-problem threads.

Well, the lock to lock fix didn't last long. 3 yellow lights came back on 10 miles into my 300 mile journey and nothing has managed to get extinguish them. (People do seem to be turning on the Christmas lights already. I was wondering if my Z4 was just feeling a bit left out.) It may be my imagination but the brakes feel a little more wooden now.

I'm hoping that it's just an ABS sensor...

So, after a week of driving around with these 3 lights on, I've arranged for it to go back to the dealer under their 3 month warranty on Tuesday... and now the lights have finally gone off again.

A faulty 7 year old sensor I would guess..?

What should I do? Will the diagnostics reveal which sensor needs replacing or do I need to wait for the lights to come on again?

Update: Turns out it was the ABS unit - 7 day wait for the part. I don't know how much they are but fortunately it's all under my 3 month warranty.
