3 series GT 2.0i - not liking it!

I have had my Z4 in the dealers for a starting issue that they are trying to fault find. The warranty ran out in June and the delaler and BMW are still trying to find this odd fault all FOC to me! This for me is service above and beyond the call of duty. The dealer is ELMs BMW in Bedford and i just can speak highly enough of the way they treat me.

The last time it was in they provided me with a courtesy car (5 series GT 3.0 sport auto) which i had for well over 2 weeks and it was a peach. really drove well and and had a better dynamic ride and comfort than my 5 series F11 525. I understand that the chassis is that of a 7 series and its really a great car to drive. Turn in was so sharp and there was little body roll. When the F11 is up for change, i'd definitely look at one of these. Its just a pity that its so FUGLY!

Anyway, as the topic heading say, 3 series GT - Not liking it! compared to the 5 series and the E89 335i its just not a nice car to drive. I don't know what it is! Is the chassis too tall, is it roof heavy? are the profile of the tyres to tall? I have no idea! its got steering that is so reminiscent to that of my old E85 and its just awful. If anybody got an idea of whats going on, i'd appreciate some insight. It was on my list of possible replacements, but not any more.

No problem really though, when they return my Z4 they can have this one back. I did email and ask if they had anything nicer...... i haven't had an email back as yet LOL.

I wonder if the X4 is anything like this?

Can't say I'm in favour of these GT versions. As you say they are UGLY.

Last time my car was in for service I got a 335d xdrive estate to use for 2days. Loved it. Very good looking. Properly quick, ride was excellent and not at all crashy, rear seat leg room was good and I am just waiting for these used models to fall below £25,000 and I'll be looking for one.

Hi Dario,

Slightly off topic, but is your F11 a 525d with the 3.0 6 cyl or 2.0 4 cyl engine? I've got the 4cyl twin turbo version and really struggle to think what I'd replace it with when the time comes. The balance of power and mpg is perfect, as is the ride, refinement and interior quality. Every other BMW model out there compromises this in one way or the other. Just cold morning starts annoy me a little.

My F11 is also the same colour as yours, but also lowered on Eibach's and now wearing genuine 19" F10 M5 408M style alloys, staggered. Looks awesome! :driving: :driving: :driving:

Mine is the F11 525 4pot twin turbo. I know what you you mean about what's next. Its so good at eating up the miles. Its only been the GT with that beautiful 3.0 diesel engine that comes close.

There is a white one round the corner from me and sometimes I think it looks good, other times it's horrid looking.

How did the mpg compare? Lose 5-7mpg on the same trips? I've been stung once with the big diesel thing after buying a E61 530d, mpg was shocking. The car only lasted 3 months before being replaced with a E61 550i (4.8 V8). Not much in it. But the 525d really delivery decent mpg for such a big car.

I get low 40s out of mine, but if I try over a 500 mile journey saybto Anglesey circuit it did 51mpg which I was very pleased with;-)

I meant what did you get from the 5 GT in comparison? Was the smooth(er) engine worth the offset in mpg?

The GT was doing about 34. In comparison it was way way better. Smooth and just Just..... well you know if you've driven the BMW 6 cyl diesel

I took the loan 320i GT back to the dealers today! I've not got my Z4 35i back yet, and don't know when it will be back with me.

I took it back to the dealers because i just don't like it and don't want to drive it!

My Clio Cup with its rock hard suspension is a better ride and is more comfortable.

While my Z was in earlier in the week I had a 2014 116i. Impressed with such a tiny engine but it felt so tall and a bit numb compared to the Z that I couldn't get a feel for it. When I got back into the Z it actually felt more comfortable. I did look at the 3 GT but its just another 3 slightly too big and I'm not a fan of the low end models interiors.
