Thought I needed 2 new front tyres for the dreaded 296 alloys but on inspection at tyre fitter discovered 3 wheels cracked on the inside rim, can't take back to BMW as not originally on car
Have now changed for 18inch ac schnitzer type 3 (replica) :) a nice looking wheel also changed from run flats to standard tyres, much better ride :driving:

Tyre fitter trying to get rid of the 296 wheels but looks like going to scrapper! Or see if a brave person will take them on eBay
:ebay:

Can you not try Lepsons or similar? Get them repaired and sell them for better money than scrap. I'm positive if you send them photo's they'll give you an idea of whether they can be fixed...

Have told tyre fitter I want £100 per corner he is looking into repairing them and making himself some cash
See how he gets on before I spend too much more time on it

Doesn't matter how bad our roads are, the wheels shouldn't crack. Otherwise we'd all be changing our wheels every week!!

296's look great, and I was sad to see mine go...but love my new 326's now.

Post some pics of your new wheels

Are they safe to repair?

Aren't the wheels covered by BMW even though they weren't originally on your car? Do they have a seperate warranty?

Did you get the wheels second hand or purchase new? If second hand, you have to wonder why they were being sold, no solace I know. I've had the issues on the rear, thankfully nothing on the front. The rears were replaced by BMW and having checked them, are of the new reinforced type (notably thicker bead half way thru the wheel) so I'm hoping that will keep me going for as long as I have the car. I've already whacked one on a massive pothole which has resulted in a slight flat spot but no cracking. The flat spot is a mild wobble around 25 mph which I'll live with for now as you really have to look/feel for it on super smooth roads and I'm not paying out nearly £500 to fix it. Besides the roads here are atrocious and I'll likely do more damage to them eventually so there's little point replacing any wheel until its beyond salvageable. Interestingly BMW consider wheels to be consumables.
