I drove my Z4 about 2 miles last night and the low coolant light came on so I slowly drove 2 miles back and noticed a puddle where I'd been parked. I topped it back up with 1.5 litres of coolant and drove to the garage this morning, they found a leaking crack in the thermostat housing and said the coolant had pooled under the waterpump.
1) I replaced the water pump 10 months ago (although suspect garage used an Airtex one from Eurocap), would coolant leaking from the thermostat housing naturally pool under the water pump or not?
2) I replaced the thermostat housing and expansion tank in 2018 (40k miles ago), is it worth replacing the expansion tank now as well as the thermostat housing? I don't do many miles but do use the car for track days.
3) The engine temperature didn't rise but could the engine of been damaged by driving the car 2 miles back home with the low coolant light on?
