Hi, i read an interesting article in one of Ireland's leading papers last night from an economist based here in Ireland.

While everyone in Ireland seems to be complaining about the rise in petrol prices (currently at €1.52) he has warned that prices such as €3 (£2.55p) or even €4 (£3.40p) are not far around the corner... i won't go into the details of listing the various influences and factors that he has based his theory on, however it is quite a scary, considering the cost of oil has a serious knock on affect on the price of other commodities...

Any chance of a new 1.4 diesel Z4 coming out :o
 
Sunday Times had an article predicting £2+ ltr too. Still, we all knew we were buying 'extravagant' cars, though I had thought it was more along the lines of servicing, parts and insurance!

On the upside - at least there'll be less traffic on the roads :driving:

I may attract ferocious disapproval, but frankly I see some positive aspects in the step price increase of the fuels.

Yes, I know well that it impacts a lot the budget of every family - mine included.
It may be a selfish statement, but when we also put in the equation the typical income level, I can tell you that for most people in Eastern Europe the fuel prices already feel like £3 would feel for you guys in the UK. In other words, if fuel prices start putting tears in your eyes, then you may find some comfort by considering that people in other countries cry heavily already.

But...
Traffic is a noticeably lighter than it used to be 1 year ago. This means that I will have better fun with my Z4M Coupe this summer, because heavy traffic and not fuel cost is the main killer of Z4 enjoyment.
Fuel price increases on an almost weekly basis, therefore more and more people leave their cars at home and rediscover the public transportation. This translates in more good news for the traffic.
People replace their gas-guzzling cars with smaller, more efficient ones. Even better, there finally seems to be an industry-wide push for vehicles using alternative sources of energy. Great news, considering that we have been waiting a lot for a turning point in this mad dependency on oil - and high fuel prices are helping this trend big time.

Oh, but don't be too happy. I am sure that there's just a matter of time until each one of the 292 g/Km of carbon dioxide off your Z4M tailpipe will be taxed its value in Gold.
So enjoy your E85/E86/E89 while you still afford paying taxes for them. The fuel is just a lesser nuisance.
