3.5mm stereo cable from Aux port

Hi all.

Just wondering is there a specific 3.5mm stereo jack cable required to use from the factory fitted aux port?

I’ve tried to connect an old iPhone 4 using 2 different 3.5mm stereo cables but it doesn’t connect and the Aux option doesn’t come up on the head unit.

Any links to purchase the correct 3.5mm cable would be great.

Thanks.

I got a 3.5 cable from Asda I think and it works fine into my android phone but i get the option of aux on the radio as well as FM and cd.

Thanks.

So it doesn’t appear to be a special cable (BMW orientated). I’ll have look on eBay.

I only get the options for FM and CD changer, even when phone is plugged in.

Weird, maybe the Aux in port isnt connected. Even when i dont have a cable connected i can still scroll through and aux still comes up

I’ve read mixed things regarding this - some say AUX only comes up if something is connected.

Either way I’m not getting AUX displayed at all.

The AUX port looks factory fitted (2008 model). Surely it’s connected - I may pull the panel out and physically check the connection.

Thanks for the link

Are you charging the phone at the same time? That can cause issues

No just plugged the iPhone 4 in only - not charging.

Deliberately used an old phone thinking that shouldn’t cause compatibility issues.

It didn’t work with my iPhone XR but I was using a lightning adaptor/3.5mm female socket lead - so didn’t expect that to work.

Still no joy!

Tried fitting a ground loop isolator (read on a US forum that this solves the problem) but still nothing. No Aux option coming up on stereo :headbang:

Anyone got any ideas on what I can check, other than removing the head unit and checking the wiring.

Thanks

I saw in a YouTube video that it can lose the aux function if for example the battery died once. So would need recoding via ncs expert.

Did you get this sorted by any chance? I see it’s been a few weeks since your last post. I’m having a similar issue. Would be good to know how to fix it.

No mate still not sorted. Your comment about the re coding is interesting

I’m having a similar issue. Just swapped out my navi head unit (getting rid of the navi setup) for the business head unit and kept my existing aux input but it’s not recognising it. I’ve ordered an aux connection off eBay. Waiting for it. It that doesn’t work it think it’s a coding issue.

Plugged the cable in and it doesn’t work. I think the headunit needs to be coded via ncs expert

I've had a search online and cannot find the 'specific coding' you would need on NCS expert for the Aux.

Ive seen lists of the coding you can do, such as auto locking doors etc but nothing listed for Aux :?

Interesting. Looks like I got the wrong aux cable
