3,0Si vs ///M

You buy a M because its part of a unique club, a bit of modern day motoring heritage.

You exactly describe why M nowadays stands for //Marketing....

Buying someting to belong to something.
This is why /m badges are put on so many cars now. Even fwd 2L diesel MPV's

Never a bad thing if you consider the depreciation value of them compared to non M BMWs.

Same with Audi and Merc, had someone come up to me the other day proclaiming "you know about cars, I've just bought a Mercedes AMG!" proad as punch he was, but what he neglected to mention was its an AMG Line and a diesel FFS! Sames true with Audi and S Line, they're all at it. Then you get things like BMW M Performance models that muddy the waters further. How long till Audi launches an RS Line?! Its going to get to point where they all need a new moniker for their performance cars as they will have totally screwed the image of the existing ones.

Funny that people say the M is too special to be a daily....all we have on this planet is a very limited amount of time and days, so every day you should try to enjoy to the max.....get the M and drive it daily, it's not a bloody Caterham!

Actually audi has done it with better thought than BMW or Mercedes. They have the S models. BMW and Mercedes only have 1 image letter/letterset (M or AMG) General public doesnt understand the difference between //M performance and //M. Its all the same to them, but they do understand that an S4 is something different than a RS4
Same with ford. Only the few really special models get the RS badge, other get the ST badge.
Same with renault, only the hardcore models get the RS badge.
BMW flings their //M logo on every boring car that gets a bumper kit or so. They dont keep the badge exclusive like how Audi/Ford/Renault (and probably others) do that.
In the end that will stain the desirablility of that logo (as it already does...)
(never thought to say that bmw could take an example in ford or renault.... but in this case they surely can)

Couldn't agree more! The M badge is thrown around to much on all the new cars.

90% of new cars are m packed out and only in the UK market
I love when they give the
*oh we have an m look and ours is new *

Then pull up alongside nail it pull back under over runs
Look over smile and carry on hahah

audi, or is that Audi?

General public can't tell an S-line audi tractor from any other VAG POS, or an audi RS - apart from bling wheels!

Same as ford, or renault - would you aspire to an ST-line Mondeo, despite the flinging of the badges?

Do you mean ford and renault, or Ford and Renault? :poke:

But I think general public can see the differenbe between the logo's RS and ST, but will have much more difficulty understanding the difference between //M and //M performance. The more they use the same logo! (which Aldi, Ford, Renault etc etc do not)
And it shows judging on the reactions here.

Other car brands dont dilute their top model brand logos on lesser models and I think BMW is making a mistake with that.

Just as likely to as an ///M. In fact I bought an Modeo SI 24v as a daily many moons ago. Not because of the SI (Now ST) branding, but because it was the fastest thing I test drove that day. :driving: Similar story with my Z4. It was the fastest most fun car I test drove & could afford, so I bought it. Had very little to do with the Badges, though I do like them. :) I don't like Audis on the other hand, because I have driven several high performance variants and not enjoyed any of them. I do love Aston as a brand though. I just hope, if the day comes that I can afford to own one, that they are not crap to drive.

Hahhah
Love this thread
I think bmw should remove the silly little M badges and create another more plush badge to say we spent a bit more for a wheel and a set of wheels to Keep owners happy, but making it clear M is the top one

Kind of a Rolland Garros thing by peugeot

M cars are money pits at the end of the day you will spend a lot more on it but its rewards will be worth it. 3.0si will always be the compromise to a M car however you look at it.

I agree with all the positive comments on the Z4M - its truly an incredible performing car and its still a looker today. But if you have an SI, don't feel that you have the runt of the litter. The SI is a great car in its own right: https://www.auto123.com/en/news/2007-bmw-z4-30si-road-test/53868/?page=1 .
