3.0si tyre sizes on a z4m

So just noticed the front tyres on the zed are from 2007! :o Look remarkably good with no cracks, but still, they need changing so new tyre plans have been fast forwarded.

So looking around, 225/40 and 255/35 R18 tyres are significantly cheaper than OEM sizes, and there is also a lot more choice.

F1 asymmetric 5 for example are £90 vs £119 and £131 vs (they don't do oem size)
Michelin Ps4 are £110 vs £147 and £156 vs £185

Has anyone done this on a Z4m? I don't mind spending the extra but not really a fan of spending extra money for no reason, especially when a lower sidewall should mean better steering feel and performance.

Please share your thoughts, thanks :)

Id buy the correct sizes for the car so 225 -45-18 & 255-40 -18 but i wouldn't buy the Michelins :o a 35 rear on 9j isn't going to enhance anything
If you do want to alter tyre sizes then keep the front stock but 245 40 18 on rear will be barely noticeable either to the eye or from the drivers seat , they should be cheaper .
Here's my own ZMR with 224s with 245 40 18 (Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2s £99 each ) on rear , chosen because i knew id be selling the set & the size works for both Ms & non Ms

Cheers Mr Wilks. I like the idea of a little less rear grip with a 245 haha. Yeah the PS4 are very over prized given there's not much difference across the top 3 these days.

Just when I think I want to go for a set of nice, light, forged aftermarket wheels for my Silver Grey MR, I catch sight of yours again on black 224s. I do like the contrast they give.

I run wider wheels than standard (8.5x18 / 9.5x18) and switched to 235/40/18 and 265/35/18, but the sizes you're suggesting seem very skinny.

"Skinny " in what way :? id expect a 245 40 18 on a 9j rim to have a greater contact patch than a 265 35 18 on a 9.5j one

245/40 is a great tip Mr Wilks, they're cheaper than the fronts on average! Eagle Asymmetric 5 for about £100 a corner, can't complain at that.

I wonder why 255 has such a massive jump in price :?

On the contact patch question, how does the rim width and profile combo affect the contact patch? 265 is more stretched on a 9.5j rim than a 245 on a 9j?
