yeah i'm gonna check all fuses tomorrow and if i cant see anythin obvous im gonna take it back

i've actually just found a thread on another forums with identical issue on a 1 series but it's from last year and nobody replied to it
 
just checked every fuse i can find and they are all ok

the only thing i found last night was 1 person last yr with identical issue with manual not working under 65mph but nobody has replied to him :(
 
I've got an update

I took the car back to the dealer i bought it from but as it's Saturday they where limited as to what they could do.

They hooked it up to the diagnostics machine and it has a stored error of "electric fan activated", the code was removed but the car stayed as it was and the eror code came back.

The auto box goes into limp mode if there is an issue with the electric fan

So it seems to point to a pretty similar thing to problem Santov had in this thread

the car is going back in during the week to be sorted out

At least i know it's not a transmission problem :)

I certainly will, after all the searching i've done it seems it's a very rare fault but i'm guessing as time goes on and the older they get, this is likely to pop up from time to time over the yrs
