Interested in the possible purchase of a 2006 3.0 si and wondered what the difference was with this model/ what standard spec was please?

Also, has this model got any particular weaknesses please?

Cheers

Hello and welcome!

Plenty of knowledge here on the forum, just browse around.

As for the weaknesses, one could quote the roof motor (if that's the roadster you're after), flywheel chatter (replacing the DMF fixes it), the DSC unit (rare but expensive) and - in rare cases of low-mileage cars - hydraulic valve lifters (if you're unlucky, you'll need a new engine head). Rear springs also tend to snap, but it's a cheap fix.

Our cars aren't getting any younger, but still, it's unlikely that you will have major issues. The maintenance costs are low for the perfomance and joy they provide.

As above...but also add...

If it comes with 108 alloys (look like a 5 spoke star) they are prone to corroding... so check the inside of them aswell as the face.

The front fogs also corrode - mist up and get water in... requires replacing as they are sealed.

But overally great (and cheap for what they are) motoring.

Agreed, IMO avoid them, MV2s look just as nice and are no hassle. Split rims need refurbing every few years even if they're perfect when you buy them, too much of a hassle/expense for me.

MV2's suit the coupe, but not the roadster in IMO.

OP, not sure what you are comparing the 3.0si against.

Be aware there are two specs of 3.0si. Sport and SE with sport being the more desirable.

Unless you want to clean them!

True, it's not easy getting in between the thinner spokes! But it beats cleaning 30-odd individual bolts per wheel that's for sure
