3.0si remap

Hi all, have just joined up after following the forum for a while.

Thought I would let you know that I took my 3.0si Coupe to BW Autorepairs in Hounslow on Monday for a remap. Had a good think about was it worth it with a naturally aspirated motor but always felt that this engine may have a bit more to give.. Anyways, Jason at BW spent 4 hours mapping and dynoing to end with end figures of 282.7 hp and 255 lbs tq. Ignoring these figuers though, the car is much more urgent over the last 2K rpm and the pick up in higher gears is swifter. I'm well pleased with the results and talking to Jason satisfied me that he knew his stuff and was totally realistic about what could be done. He also made some subtle changes to my alarm activation/locking etc which suited my needs. If anyone is interested give BW a call, they're happy to chat.

Regards

So noisy topend - welcome and as this is your first post done are you going to show us some pictures of your Zed or just advertise a tuner?

Nice work.

Did you get any dyno figures/plots from the time on the rollers?

What were the subtle changes to the alarm stuff? Sounds interesting. I take it that was done via GT1/DIS like BMW tools, rather than inside the ECU data?

Thanks

Dave

Hi and thank you.

I'm not advertising, just trying to give a heads up on the results of all the research I did before deciding to go with BW. Thought it might be helpful. As a forum novice I will need to talk to my son about photos as I don't know how to do this, but I took a phone vid of my car on the dyno. (Montego Blue with 108 wheels).

I have a remap chart which I will try and photo and post a bit later. The car started with 264 hp and 225lbs which BW said was a good start as they call the dyno 'the heartbreaker' i.e it's not often people see what they are hoping for..

I had the car beep once to lock and twice to unlock as I find the range on the locking to be a bit poor and often wonder whether I have actually locked it! Was hoping for the mirrors to fold on the key also, but there was difficultly sourcing a code. Jason will call me when he has it and we'll arrange a meet in Bristol as he does some work there. This is done via the seat memory module I believe, so I don't think the ECU is involved?

225 > 255lbft is pretty good going.

All that said, I'd want independent @ wheels/flywheel figures before/after to be happy the figures were correct :D

Thats an excellent result then - nice one. didnt think the n52 had that much to give.

just when you are talking about the last 2k revs, I always thought the car didnt feel as quick when up there as it did lower in the rev range.

glad to hear you had success with the map anyways!

Just my 2p.

There is as much chance a tuner dyno's the car to exacerbate losses on the before run, to then show a bigger improvement in the after run.

Ie, before might be 200bhp @ wheels, 255bhp @ crank (corrected from losses which are rather big here at 55bhp)

After might be 230bhp @ wheels (30bhp gain), and 275bhp @ crank (corrected by using real losses this time of 45bhp)

Not saying either way. This is the problem with dyno stuff full stop, the data is only as good as the info that comes with it, and dyno places never provide the info to help you assure the values are meaningful.
To me, the torque gain is what is the most impressive, but the torque before the remap is what appears to me to be the most iffy figure.

Any tuner who gives you @ wheels/crank before/after plots is trying their best. At least then you can get an idea of the losses before/after.

Dave

Dave, yes the torque makes the difference but I agree with your view on the flywheel/wheel figures. Doofus, 5K to 7K, yes felt a bit slow up here before, feels more honda vtecy now. jamiez 17.7 isn't alot granted and probably not the best value for money, this and the torque would only mean two car lengths on yours in a second gear roll. You pay's your money, I'd prefer a map to an old school sat nav, cruise and a stubby, but each to their own.

if you look closely at the dynoer you can spot the 'fudging' quite easily, I am assuming from what noisy said that there was no fudging happening during the runs.

o you gota love the vtec noisytopend

Jesus guys this is an Internet forum. Step down from your bloody high horses and give the chap a welcome for goodness sake. It's threads like this that make people not want to bother contributing to the from at all. He's had a remap and it appears has realised some fairly good gains. Fair enough to be sceptical but no need for the hostility...

+1

It was a lighthearted joke, I actually do want to know if it's a one off or realistic.
Besides he hasn't posted since 2011, I hardly think he'll be sat at home self harming over my response
