3.0si rear brake recommendations

My rear brakes need replacing soon. Where's the best place to get new ones (discs and pads)?

Been quoted £240 from BMW including sensor.

What size are they by the way?

Cheers
Daz

Ouch!! You can get a complete set of mtech disks and pads for less than that for all four corners. Is that just parts or parts and labour?

ECP will give you the sizes and options. Unless the warning light has illuminated you don't need a new sensor. I've got a set of MTEC discs waiting to go on next. Worth getting new hub bolts from BMW as they're only a few quid.

That's parts alone!

Just been searching on the web and came across mtec and ebc. Reasonably priced too.

Which mtec ones do you recommend bearing in mind I don't do track days?

Yeah, I feel quite comfortable doing brakes. I've already read up on here any pitfalls for the rear. I've also a wind back tool and a rubber mallet to beat the hell out of the disc when it doesn't come off!

Pagid from ECP.

I did mine with no wind back tool, just pulled on the caliper with my weight before I took it off as it's not a screw back type.

Just done mine today, rear ones activated the warning light so I changed front and back, all pretty easy and the ECP ones are ok.
But after replacing everything inc sensors the b***ard, friggin light is still on. Aaaarghh!.

Brakes work great though.

That's good to know. My tool also acts as a clamp so it can just push the piston back. Did the girlfriends fiesta last year with it no problems.

It's definitely easier with a clamp but handy that you can loosen it enough by hand to get the pads over the lip initially.

If you're replacing disk and pad just get a flat head screwdriver in between the pad and disk and crowbar the piston back in enough to clear the disk. No need to be careful if they're going in the bin.

Replaced front and rears with Bosch. Also purchased the wear indicators as previous experience with my old 2.5 shows they can become brittle with age and fall apart when removed.

Just fitted mtec discs and textar e-pads to mine at the weekend. First impressions were a bit scary as they needed bedding in, i guess. Work fine now. Better than standards, although you would expect that as they were very well worn.

They look alright too. Ignore the alloy, they're getting refurbished very soon.

Thanks for the recommendations. I like the look of the mtec discs, probably go for a protective coating if available.

Out of interest, does the handbrake have a separate drum or is it integrated within the caliper?
I'll take the handbrake off anyway before attempting anything.

The 'coating' just looks like paint to me so not sure if it's worth it.
Handbrake is a drum and worth adjusting while you have access.

I'm going for coating as there is nothing worse than a rusty disk. Paint is better than rust in my eyes.
