3,0Si E85 engine rattle when cold?

Went to view a 3.0 Si today......it had a strange rattle when cold but this noise disappeared after a run..............what your thoughts?
Its the underlying rattle knock below the noise of the injectors. :?

Ah, the old 'rattle when cold' 3.0 si problem. I've read many threads on this - I even began to hear it on my own car, but reckon I was 'transferring'. Search HVA Rattle, here's one :

Very much sounds like the HVA issue. If it were me I would find another. Others may disagree though.

Thanks guy's.............Car had been sitting a while judging by the brakes.
My old 3.0 never sounds like this no matter how long it has sat.
Loved the seats and steering wheel from mine. It didn't feel any faster with the increased output though.
Not in a rush to purchase.......... :wink:

If it has really sat for a long time then not so much of an issue. Problem is you might buy one and think it's ok only for the problem to appear soon after.

I fall into the camp that this is doing damage, others don't such as BMW. In some lots of ways if I was buying a 3.0 I would go for a pre facelift with the rock solid engine and more tuning options.
