3.0si custom exhaust fitted on friday

I have just looked at their website. The place looks very professional. Did they actually test your car after new system was fitted?

Very worrying since I'm there on Monday Morning for some tube bending. I'd best be very sure they work with me as I know exactly what I want and expect.

One pipe is not necesaruly more restrictive than 2 - it's all about bore and gas flow. they may have fitted just one big bore not two smaller pipes.

I suggest you put a call in Saturday AM to Imy (the production manager) and get his views on reasons for doing various things and air your concerns.

Whilst of no help to the post or the poster, I take it cj10jeeper you are from lichfield walsall? I have seen MIJ performance they had that new premises just off from where they were doing that new junction, pleck rd I think it is?

I saw you had done some mods and was going to ask if you would help me if I couldnt get my washer problem sorted, other than that not much other than fancy a pint sometime? lager shandy of course im :driving: lool

whilst i see you are unhappy with what you have had done, this is a full Miltek system by comparison fitted with 100 cell racing cats.

we have another forum member who has expended many many Euros on the quest for a sweeter exhaust note.

i will see if i can find his posts on a another Zed cars forum, but he explored the 2 in to one situation on his 2.5 and through various designs he lost so much torque that the car became piss poor to drive and needed its neck wringing to go anywhere.

i'll see what i can find.

I want to go back to standard exhuast. Even if it means coming out my own pocket.

When will BMW extend the Performance range to all other models, not just 1-series and 3-series? So we don't have to fit non-OEM upgrades.

I know how you feel. I've been there and worn the T-shirt!!

One of the things I have learnt in the many years of meddling with cars and motorbikes is if an after market exhaust system has no intervention from the designer of the car/motorbike, it just doesn't work/sound right/both!!

The only performance exhausts I have had on my cars or motorbikes that worked were the John Cooper Works kit on my MINI because BMW/MINI helped develop it for the car and the Akrapovic exhausts on my motorbike because Yamaha helped to design those for the bike!

A guy from a well know exhaust manufacturer Jama (who also make the Hot Cam motorcycle exhausts/silencers) said to me when I was looking for some cans for my Yamaha R1. He said they can make exhaust that sound better and look better but chances are they won't perform better! There will always be a compromise! This is because Yamaha have buckets of money and large development/test teams to match the exhaust systems to the vehicle. BMW are the same.

I now tend to leave that side of it to the guys who designed the car! The amount of money I have waisted re-fitting the original systems when I realise the after market ones don't perform as well as the OEM ones!!

They know people talk on the internet, they don't want bad reputation. :) So they will fit the right parts and also give you £50 for wasting your time. Result!

Ye fair play to them. The said that the pipe fitted was to thin and also wrong back box. I just dont no whether to let them fit the right parts or just go back to standard?

id say let them fit it, as they are bound to be more diligent after the error and giving you some money off.

I expect you are losing torque with any aftermarket system, you may get a few bhp top end but apart from noise and looks aftermarket exhaust rarely work better than the original oem.

The two smaller pipes would probably have been designed to keep gas velocities high, I had a better low end torque on a 2.5" system than my friends 3.0" system (both hayward and scott) with similar modifications on my 200sx.

I'm delighted that you are being treated properly and they are to correct the mistakes.

IMHO let them rectify it, being fully aware of your concerns and I'm sure they'll make sure your happy.

I'll be there at 11.00 am Monday for several hours, so may see you then :)
