I know that road well and I can't believe you got 39mpg on that as it just begs to be driven as quickly as possible traffic permitting.
Exactly! One of my favourite roads - I even detoured off the A19 to go down it & rejoin via Sutton bank while on the way to Gaydon.

I've had as high as 37.6 after a trip from Bath to Durham
I was hoping for a good figure on the return trip from Gaydon. The obc was hovering around 40mpg @ a c/c'd 65mph (with the roof down & Floyd on the stereo) but a cold start & a round trip to work dropped it to a quoted 37mpg (34.7 on brimming the tank). My E36 obc was 2mpg optimistic too.

Since there are 2 or 3 of you in the NE you should come along to the Dun ow at Bournemoor, Chester-le-Street on the first Wednesday of the month. BMW Club NE meet there. There are at least 2 E85's (my roadster & a coupe) & an E89 Zed. There are a couple of others that come along too. New faces always welcome.

Don't worry, I drive that road most weeks and my usual mpg is about 25, but wanted to challenge myself! Like I said, I was driving like a proper fanny!
I was quite impressed that I could get it up as high as that my initial aim was for 35 but then I just kept wanting it to go higher!
