3.0i ticking noise when coasting in gear

Apologies if this has been discussed before however I think this is slightly different to the normal idle ticking.

Whilst on my road trip I used engine braking a lot on mountain passes, I noticed with the roof down or window open that the engine makes a loud ticking noise when coasting in gear. The noise goes away when power is applied, oil level fine, no warning lights etc..

Anyone else had thus? Do you think its the hva's or disa valve?
 
Neither of those well known problems should only happen under engine braking. Are you sure it's from the engine? Try to determine if the tick frequency is related to engine speed or road speed. My guess is something in the drive train. Other guesses is an exhaust leak or even maybe normal overrun pop. Sorry, guesses is all I can offer.
