3.0i Temp Sensor has popped out

So this happened on the way to work this morning, luckily it was only a mile or 2 from the office, and mostly down hill. So turned the engine off and freewheeled most of the way.

When i finally managed to look over the car properly, and pin point where the coolant was leaking from I noticed this sticking out.



Has anyone every had this happen before. Do they just push back in to the housing?

Looks like its just plastic clips, is that right?

I'll be picking up a new sensor over the weekend and leaving the car at work. Hope I can just push a new sensor in there and refill the coolant, and it'll be good to go.

Luckily it didn't happen yesterday as i did a 360 miles round trip from Nottingham to Southampton.

After you refill the coolant there’s a ten minute bleed the car carries out once you’ve initiated it with the throttle pedal

A simple push fit with no kind of slide clip is such a dumass design, as proven here.

I would be worried about it happening again and would consider a new lower rad hose, as it may be that which is warped and no longer able to clamp on the sender properly.

Just so happens I am changing mine tomorrow as it has developed a leak.
