3.0i MPG and the freezing temperatures

Today, On my commute I only got an average of 24mpg and that was with a very very light foot.

Coming from a diesel I wad wondering how much to should expect the mpg to fall with the 3.0i? In the cold weather that is.

I have a 150 mile commute tomorrow, wed, Thu and Friday....... hope its not too thirsty! I'm claiming It all back on company expenses anyway though! :driving:

suppose it depends what type of roads, were you stop/starting in traffic ?.

I have a 3.0i and in traffic i just switch the mpg reading to something else as i would rather not know! and quite often when i have had a look its lower than 24mpg.

Motorway though, across a 100mile journey i can achieve anything from 34-38mpg, which i dont think is too bad.

I done 100 miles on the M25 Sunday. In the 50 mph average speed cameras I was doing 46.4 MPG 8)

If you went at 90, which I wouldnt recommend. I would guess you'd get around 31.6 MPG

MPG drop on an Naturally Aspirated petrol engine will be no where near as significant as that of a Diesel. My old old Seat Ibiza Cupra TDi (~200bhp) used to drop 20%+ in winter on a daily commute. 56+mpg to ~46 in the cold. This is due to the extra air density being multiplied by boost pressure, which itself will be higher due to better intercooling, which is again multiplied by the Diesels variable mixture abiltiy. That combined with the thermal efficiency, meaning it takes much longer to reach operating temperature!

A light foot doesnt always denote high MPG... Engines are most efficient at producing Kinetic Energy at around 2/3rds throttle at around 1800-2200rpm. This probably means keeping to 55mph and accellerate purposefully. Doing this i can acheive ~45mpg and a steady A-Road run and its still good fun maintaining those speeds through the corners! :driving:

May also wanna check tyre pressures, check heat of tyres and brakes after a run to check for toe issues and binding brakes. Is the car producing power as youd expect?

I'm blatently missing something here with these MPG figures.. the max average for a tank I have managed to achieve so far is 31mpg!

I've managed to get about 40mpg when crusing in 6th at 40mph... How the heck can you get 46mpg out of it??

by driving like a complete grandad :poke:

I pay little attention to it to be honest, but then it isn't a daily driver for me :D

Beancounter1980, you're not an accountant are you? All these mpg threads :D

Could have got one of these, of course? http://www.truthaboutsmart.co.uk/?atlassource=paid

Even the website is irritating

In winter the car will use more fuel as it will take longer to heat up, you will have the engine running demisting etc. though you also get added performance from the cold damp air though it is a bit slippery out there with damp and leaves to make good use of it.

As said, one of the effects of the MAF is actually to squirt more fuel in, having detected a colder and therefore denser mass of air being sucked in. And if you use the modest extra performance this gives, well your mpg goes to hell in a hand basket.... :)

Personally my favourite thing about this time of year is those l-o-v-e-l-y heated seats...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

start car... turn on seats... return to house... finish tea... drive to work.... mmmm toastie :D

MPG.... why buy a 3 litre car and then start worrying about mpg? And heated seats - like water bottles, great for the infirm and those of a senior age to ease the joints but in a car :!:

as AlanJ - why worry :)

I love my heated seats and they are great for easing any back pain you may have

Agreed, not sure why it comes up so often. Maybe in a Nissan Micra forum.

Oy, some of us are 'infirm' and still don't use them :D

Mines no different in any weather and as said heated seats mmmmmmmmmmm :D After watching the Britcar night race at Brands Sat jumped in the car turned on the seats and drove home in warm comfort :D

Indeed I am fella! For my sins!
:P

This car never ceases to amaze me. I drove 200 miles today and I was very heavy with the foot. Just made sure I had it in 6th gear all the way etc.

The car returned minimum 34mpg. For the sheer thrill Factor and the low running costs, I for one won't be selling my motor for sometime I think.

The cars acceleration is relentless....only had the car for a week!

The sound mod is just amazing too...

no word of a lie, on a 50mph run last night, I got 50.4mpg.

admittadly, to celebrate I put it back in second, turned on sport mode and got it back down to 22.. but now at least I know it's possible!!

Thanks goodness for that, I thought I'd wandered into a NIssan Micra forum for a minute - wonderful mpg, warm bottoms?? I mean...

It's good. You should try a 330d. Fuel of the Devil, I know, but even my old one was awesome.
