Nobody could beat me off the line in my old Stepanie (2003 2.5i 5sp manual) I ran her 0-60 in 4.5 wilst holding the video camera in my right hand  Y'all Z4um veterans remember the video I'm sure.
How could we forget.... :P

dannyboy, I thought you were joking around with your sig, unfortunately you aren't! If you think your auto is faster off the line in your auto against a manual 3.0 even against an average driver you're seriously deluded!

Sorry to be so straight about this but it's obvious you're winding people up on the forum by pushing something so wide of the mark.

No Smith, I'm deadly serious about it, just like I was last night when I had this slow ass 997 Turbo between 30mph and 130mpm on the A34. Absolutely mullered him those things are slow. :P

Smith read the other thread and you may understand whats being said. :)

'Boy' - I've read the other thread, from the beginning, participated in it etc etc. Fact is, you're still peddling about a so called race where the other guy didn't react (or you jumped the start) and where he tried to drag from 40 in 3rd gear where your car would have kicked down to 2nd.

I assume you thought Schumcher's victory in the 6 car Indy race showed how great a driver he was!!! haha

Smith I have submitted the evidence and outlined my argument. If you are unable to comprehend what is being said or understand what others have contributed then perhaps you need to study it more carefully. But, I appreciate time is scarce so I will draw a conclusion from the above in simple terms.

• An automatic is quicker through the early gears 9 times out of 10 simply because it can launch more effectively and rev up to the engine’s optimum change rpm and gears are swapped quicker (yes quicker than you and me but perhaps not BMWs chief test driver). Perhaps indeed every now and again when the launch gets nailed by the manual driver the same will take off effectively. That said, there is very little it anything in it. Can you gauge ½ second difference in your head? A car and a half length perhaps over 60 perhaps, and that is on the basis the manual is absolutely nailed correctly whereas the auto simply puts its foot down.

• There is no argument about the midrange where the 3.0si is quicker, nor is there an argument about which would be quicker round the track in the hands of a tame racing driver (genuine, not wannabee).

In light of the above and what has been reiterated time and time again, for the purposes of real world driving there is nothing in it.

Olden notions that manual cars are noticeable quicker outside a track is a load of bollocks and remember this is a BMW auto not Dagenham Dave’s Mondeo.

So there you have it smith and hopefully you can read, digest and comprehend what has been said, further I also appreciate the fact you state you have a 3.0si and shall leave that to a random person’s objective test for the ramifications of such.

Case closed and youre debating with none other than yourself.

But, perhaps you can explain....
BTW, whats the “boy” remark all about at the top of your post because ever with 2 degrees I’m still struggling to understand its meaning……….? I’m also lacking to comprehend your comparison between an F1 race from 2005 and today’s topic of discussion, the Ferrari was a superior car to its peers and romped it.

Maybe it's an abbreviation of 'DannyBoy' in much the same way as you abbreviated 'csmith319' into 'smith'?

I knew degrees were easier to get nowadays, but that is ridiculous :fuelfire:

....and here is me thinking perhaps it had racial connotations.

Great isnt it Five, firstly a 2.1 and secondly a commendation. Suppose it depends on which University you went to and Manchester is up there in the top 16 law schools in the country. :)
