Hmm.. think I need to do some thinking.

As said, take one for a test drive. But don't expect the Z4 to 'feel' as fast as the Ibiza in a straight line. You'll only know if you test drive, at this stage thinking is just over-analysing.

As said you may not feel much difference in straight line speed but thats not really what the z4 is about. Im not saying its slow, far from it but when I was looking for a car I was always looking at 0-60 times and how much performance you can get for your money i.e. 350z, vx220 turbo, even considered a scooby and I think they're s**t ugly, my point is once I bought my zed all that just became irrelevant because you dont go 0-60 everyday and half the time your stuck behind somebody in traffic anyway. The z4 is just the best all-rounder it has enough power for the road, is the best looking and has the best interior by far and it isnt a fortune to run.

Before my 2.5 and 3.0 Z4 i had a mini Cooper S with 175hp and 190 lbs of touque, it was a fast car probably faster in a straight line thean the 2.5 but definately not as fast as the 3.0. It also was no where near as stable on fast bends as the Z, it always felt a bit twitchy to me.

I don't think you can get a beter feeling than going through the twisties than with a RWD car (especially the Z), the only thing that feels beter than front engine RWD is mid engine RWD but you always feel more nervous with mid engined cars especially if they have alot of power. At the end of the day what makes an even bigger diference is if a driver knows the road and their skill level as this will always overcome pure power in a car. Also the other person may be faster than you but it might just be because they are willing to risk everything to beat you. Best just to let these people overtake and have their crash with someone else.

What a strange discussion? :)

I come from E36 M3 to Subaru Imprezza STI tripple 3 pack (333bhp) to a Mitsi Evo 8 FQ330 (which was spectacular) and after a stint in a golf i'm back to a sports car in the 3.0Si which is a completely different beast.

The way I see it the words "hot hatch" and Z4 should never collide in the same sentence. :D

I think it may be the fact that I'm over 40 now and just love the feeling of getting in the Z, dropping the top and only having the sound of a 3 litre straight 6 to keep me company ... happy days :)

Pete

Exactly. If you want to go fast then buy something Japanese with a big turbo. If you want a proper sports car then get a Z4 :)

x2.

Why compare a premium two seater sports car with some Euro box? Different beasts really. Can't take the roof down on a Focus ST. But if speed means all to you a 3 litre si Z4 is faster 0-60 than nearly all hot hatches out there.

As many have said, the 2 shouldnt really be compared.

The likes of a Seot leon cupra,Focus ST(225BHP)etc,are 0nly quoted as 6.5 secs 0-62,while the z4 3.0i(2005) IS 5.9,AND THE 06/07 3.OSi is 5.7secs,so both hot hatches are outdone by the z4's,on paper,as others have mentioned,it all comes down to the drivers skill/insanity in some cases, pushing it too far/dtermination to get past u,compared to your own levels of "self-preservation",and how well they/u ,know a particular road.

All things equal(roads/drivers ability in their own car),i would go for the z4 3.0 every time....or an m roadster (0-62 in 5secs) :D :driving:

How about this for a comparison,

Cosworth Subaru STI CS400 0-60 3.7 seconds
Porsche 911 Carrera S 0-60 4.7 seconds

Now you may say the Porsche would have the Subaru on cross country pace, but would it?

Top Gear test track times,

Cosworth Subaru 1.27.7 (wet)
Porsche Carrera S 1.28.9 (wet)

Based on looks, the Porsche wins. On overall driving experience, the Porsche wins. On image/style, the Porsche wins. On outright pace, the Subaru wins.

I would take the Porsche everytime, as i would the Z4 over a hot hatch.

What a load of "willie" wavers.

You are all of course aware, that there is a maximum speed limit of 70 mph in this country.

You do have a point, the average 0-60 time for 90% of the muppets on the road is around 40 secs. Have a count next time you are out and about.

:(

I'm going to spark controversy here and admit that I've gone over that limit. :? I used to think I was the only forum member who could commit such a heinous crime until I started to go on the forum meets...! :driving:

All this talk of Vauxhalls and hot hatches has got me wanting to join Cavalier Crazy and go on a run with them

Some lovly action shots, even a photo of a battery.

OK perhaps not :headbang:

You snobby b*gger CJ! Nothing wrong with those pics, they're car enthusiasts just like the rest of us. :poke:

Yes. But much lower class. :P Same when Ferrari owners look at us (Zed owners).

My first thoughts were as yours, CJ. But change the cars and the pictures setup suddenly looked very familiar. I agree, Bradders75, good to see enthusiasts out enjoying their cars. I do sometimes wonder what a group of specced up / modded GT3 owners would make of our efforts.

Come on, CJ, batteries can be interesting, have even seen them posted on here...

Ha - ha - yes - funny and of course great to see people out enjoying their cars

Think there's a big difference of a photo of a battery as a part of a project to relocate the battery than one of a club run out :poke:

(God that install on my battery looks good  )
