3.0 yellow oil light

My 04 3.0 has started bleeping and showing the yellow oil light when I turn it off. I have topped up the oil and if I put any more in it will be over full. The light started coming on occasionally but now seems to be getting more regular.

Is this a sensor fault that can be ignored or can it be a sign of something more sinister?
 
Scan obd. It will show up with a fault code.
my sensor went ages ago but I just check manually every week now.

Swap in a new sensor next oil change if you can be bothered. I suck my oil out every service interval so don't jack up the car to get at the sump plug. Otherwise I would probably swap in a new level sensor if I did.
 
Thanks, that is what I thought. I’ll see if my VAG scanner will pick up any codes in the standard OBD mode. I have been quietly ignoring it but each time it beeps at me a get a nagging feeling that it might be a sign of something more serious.
