Hello guys.
I recently bought a 2004 Z4 with 38k miles on the clock. I keep reading everywhere that changing gearbox oil is a good idea after 8 years or 40-60k miles so I thought I might as well do it now. I've done a lot of research but most threads I can find are about the manuel transmission - mine is the automatic steptronic ZF5HP19 (A5S310Z).
Now it comes down to the choice of oil. Usually I always buy original spareparts so I took a look at the original BMW oil which costs 30 quid a liter and I need 7 liters. I've also found a kit from ZF which is even more expensive (270 quid) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310825942215?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. It does include all the spare parts necessary though....
If I go with Castrol, Mobile 1 or Ravenol 7 liters doesn't cost more than around 70 quid.
Am I being stupid for considering the ZF or BMW OEM oil for my gearbox?
