3.0 MANUAL

Hi all,

I’m new to the forum and am keen to get myself something fun for the weekend.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Z4 and based on many reviews, it feels like the right choice to fill the weekend car void I currently have!

With the roadmap outlined by BoJo this week and freedom of movement edging closer, I figured I would start seriously looking for a car now.

I’m looking for a convertible e85 Z4 3.0 manual (pre and post-facelift considered) and would ideally like the mileage to be below 85,000 miles.

If you know of anyone selling the above, please let me know.

Thanks for your help,

Craig

Welcome to the forum Craig, and good luck finding the right one.

Depending on your budget the biggest advantage of the facelift 3.0Si is that if you find a Sport model it will have the desirable M-Sport seats which were a rarely chosen option on pre-facelifts - and a bit more power!

Thanks for the tips Mr. Tidy!

I’m maybe a tad naive but from what I’ve seen on many classified sites the prices seem to fluctuate quite a bit, so I’m not entirely sure what to expect for my money!

I’m currently looking at a top-limit of £7500, so hopefully I can get a goody for that sort of money.

Yes prices do seem to be a bit random just now, but sadly I can't see you getting a facelift 3.0Si Sport just now with that mileage within your budget.

But you might get a 2.5Si Sport in budget with the M-Sport seats, and a 2.5Si has 218PS compared to the 231PS of the pre-facelift 3.0i so not a big difference!

I actually think £7.5k is quite a good budget for a E85 3.0si around the 80-85k miles mark. I think the bigger problem is just finding one! There always seem to be a lot more E86 for sale than E85s so you almost certainly need to be prepared to travel for the right car.

Hi Craig
I’m going to be putting my Sapphire Black 03 e85 up shortly. Lovely condition, some upgrades, about 71000 miles, MOT till September ish. I’d be looking for £4200. Let me know if you’d be interested and I’ll get all the info together.

Good luck.. i think 7.5 is a healthy enough budget for a decent 3.0si, they do seem to be in demand at the moment though so just be patient, you're right not to rule out the early model too as you could have plenty of change to freshen one up and make it your own

Just as a reference, I bought a slightly lower mileage 2006 3.0 SI for about what you’re looking at back in Oct 2020, it needed a little tidying up here and there (for example fog lamps I misted up and the third brake light had a very small crack in it) but was otherwise in good nick.

Assuming there are any on the market you should be able to find yourself a good example for your budget and keep in mind that certain desirable options are quite easy to install; cruise control, multi-fuction steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity. Others are very much harder, for example sport seats (because they’re so darn hard to find) and heated seats.

Good luck in your hunt, I find that the search and buying process can be a really enjoyable part of the process, hopefully it is for you too.

Hi Damok,

It can't hurt to look. If you wouldn't mind pulling the info together, it'd be appreciated!

Hi Folks,

Thanks for all of your advice.

Totally agree on the patience and travelling part (although patience has never been my strong point  ).

I figured the forum would be a good place to find a decent example, but do you guys have any recommendations on where to look aside from the usual Autotrader etc.?

Just to let you spread your search a little wider, the facelift 3.0si se was also available with the desirable M-sport seats as they were an option from new

Not quite the 6cyl but a decent 4 pot for the money and just one budget

Hi folks,

Just a wee update from me - I'll be joining the list of people who own a Z4 from next Saturday!

Managed to bag myself a lovely stratos grey 3.0si with oodles of paperwork and surprisingly no major advisories for any previous MOTs (just worn tyres!!). Garaged for nearly all of its life and I've been assured it has been meticulously looked after.

Thanks for all your guys help on this forum. Its been great fun sourcing a car and I look forward to hopefully meeting some of you at meets in the future once we are all able to.

Pics to follow once I collect.
