3.0 Fuel Consumption (again)......!

I just did a Montreal - Cedar Rapids, Iowa - Tampa, Florida trip (3950 kms) and I averaged 8.6L/100 Km on my Z4MC. That's 27.6 mpg (U.S. gallon) per tank. I was able to do 620 kms (390 miles) on a tank driving at 100-110 kph (60-65 mph) in sixth gear with occasional bursts up to 110 mph. :)

I drive mine like I stole it most of the time. Use it very rarely to go to work in so not much stop start driving. Mainly A, B and dual track roads. I average 27.5 MPG. Best on a run 30 MPG (that has only happened once!!).
As a side note, I used to get an average of 28 MPG out of my JCW MINI S so it's not that much worse than my MINI!!
Rarely look at the MPG of any car to be honest. I drive what I like to drive and suffer the consequences. If I was worried about MPG I would'nt have a sports coupe!

The lowest i have had from an entire tank is 25mpg. This involved lots of stop start driving and no motorways.

I use it on the motorway once a week, and if driven at 50-55mph, i have got the clock to creep upto 42 mpg! The tank range left plus mileage already completed on that tank came in at over 460 miles!

On average i get about 30-32mpg. I do like to put my foot down every now and then, but also drive sensibly too. I don't do extreme braking or speeding at the lights and try to use the gears well.

My car is a 3.0 Si Sport Coupe with manual box.

When I had the 3.0, I was getting 36 mpg out of it with fast-ish driving. I used to get 33 mpg with thrashing it.

I did have a CAI in mine though (2004), but even before that I would get 33 easily.
Your version of thrashing sounds different to mine then!!
Are you sure you needed to buy an M?
Sounds like you have a very light right foot!! :P :poke:

I get about 30mpg average on my 2004 3.0 manual. Had 32 out of it on our holiday trip this year over 1500 miles.

my range is also around 250 miles.

What area do you live in - is it hilly or flat, windy?

My old MCS had a serious drinking problem, the best i ever got was 30 mpg, and an average per tank of about 26mpg. I found this totally shocking for a 1.6 shopping car with a posh supercharger!!! My 330Ci followed by the Z4 have both been much more frugal on the motion lotion.

Mixture of all. Mainly A and B roads. I drive less than 1/2 mile and I'm in the country side so no big cities to navigate first.

Nope, this was in the Swiss mountains and through Germany. Top down, 163 mph on the GPS and flat out through the mountains. That would be the 30 mpg.

UK driving including the forum trips would see up to 36 mpg, but that included the trips to the start point. The Scottish runs would be 80 mph on the cruise to Scotland itself.

a CAI = Cold Air Intake, basically a replacement airbox

Constant RPM, long drives is the MPG solution I guess. Mine is a lot of country roads so gear changing a lot and powering out of corners. :driving:

Interesting thread
my 06 2.5si AUTO may have a drinking problem them as ive only managed to get around 250 miles from a tank - something 300 on a run.
If i drive her like i stole her i can get the MPG as low as 14!!!!

It does even out through, but im going to monitor it a bit more as the car is still under warranty and will throw it back at the dealer if its misbehaving!

Has there been any ECU firmware updates to our cars over the years??

Fuel consumption is based on many things,

Journey time, how many stop/starts, hills, tyre pressure , air con, etc etc

Locally I get 200 - 220 a tankfull in my 3.0, on a good run 350.

Don't know how you guys manage over 20mpg in the m version. When I test drove an m it was always under 20mpg all the time I was driving it. With my 3.0si which has only 6k miles so still tight probably I can get:

Occasional bursts here and there 32mpg
Gunning it all the time then it goes down to 25mpg
mway speeds can get just above 40mpg

For me that is amazing for such a big engined car. Probably the same or maybe better mpg than my old s2000. When I had an exige s I was getting even less than those figures and that car's a lot lighter.

I don't know if this can realistically make any difference, but according to the computer I dropped around 1 MPG constantly when I started using BP Ultimate instead of Shell Optimax using the car on the same weekly journeys? :|

Oooooh, good point. What's the octane rating of the gas you're using? Lower octane =worse mileage as the computer compensates and prevents engine knock.

These cars (well, those with the N52 engine anyway) don't even have the "premium recommended" in the manual. The previous engine did, though (guess the engine management chip/software have been updated). You *could* run lower octane, but it would not be happy. Also, what's the alcohol content (if any) and does the UK change blends summer/winter as here in the States?

it dropped so Im guessing worse...

Could be either - a dropped consumption means an increase in MPG, or a dropped MPG means an increase in consumption :D
