Hi Guys
Just bought my first Z4 and am very pleased, 2006 2.0i Sport in Black.
I really wanted a twin exhaust (sad i know, couldn't find a 2.2 onwards that i liked) but really like the look, picked one up on eBay (removed from new car) for next to nothing.
Question is will it fit, it looks like it will.
I got the whole exhaust should i replace the whole thing or just the rear silencer.
Is it something i could do myself or would it need welding?
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Just done, £30 for the exhaust, £40 to fit, what do you think? I know it still only a 2.0 but the twin exhaust suits the car...

Welcome

Never heard of it being done. You need to check the pipe diameter of the 2 systems and almost certainly use an adapter if you cut into the system anywhere.

Frankly I'd keep it stock as the whole system is balanced and for twin tips just get a custom exhaust centre to cut off the single tip and fit a twin - job done

Hi,

Unfortunately it does not fit.
Even the last barel may be different.

You can check at the below link what I have done (see posted photos) , which actually is what jeeper told you above.

Genuine thanks for the information.
I'll already bought the 3.0 exhaust now so am going to try that option first.
Looking at the BMW online parts catalogue the parts look very similar (apart from the number of inlet/outlet pipes of course), i've not idea how to post pics so i've posted links instead, what do you think?

2.0

3.0

To be fair the 3.0 exhaust was very cheap, i pick it up this weekend, so i guess then i'll have a better idea if in reality if it will fit.
If it's a no go, i'll head down to my local exhaust centre and follow your lead konas, as your looks great!
Cheers again guys.

That's it konas - I remember you getting it done now

hertsz4 - since you have it then of course do a bit of measuring. I'm sure you'll find a wy of making it fit. You may not improve performance as the system will be well balanced to your 4 cyl engine, but equally you not do much harm either.

I'd do nothing that you can't reverse then you'll be just fine.

Cheers, good advice, knowing my luck i expect to be heading down the reversal route.
Passenger side window regulator has snapped today also, happy days!

All fitted now, check the edited first post, what do you guys think?

Cheers Gannet

Only had the car over a week, these mods are addictive, wheels and exhaust done, whats next!

Cheers Jeeper, been to my local garage and they've checked the emmissions etc, no issues - so all legal aswell !

Great work mate :)

I find It's very unusual that BMW use a 2x50mm system all the way from the 2.2i to the 3.0i.

Also that RealOEM link for the 2.0i is surely wrong? And if not, its the most crazy pipework ive ever seen! Any input on this?:
4 -> 2 -> Cats -> 1 -> Front Silencer -> 2 -> Rear Collector -> 1 -> 2 -> Rear silencer -> Exit

And the 1 -> 2 after the rear collector just happens magically! :|

Hmmm, not sure what you’re asking, but here's what happened;

The 3.0 exhaust had 2 pipes leading to the rear box, one which runs the exact same line as the pipe work on the 2.0 and a 2nd that runs alongside it. So the 2nd was cut off and welded shut the other was spliced straight in the existing pipe work. Simples !!!!

Cheers, it was more luck than judgement really, it's just nice sometimes when these mad thoughts pay off !
