2E84 code

My 2006 2.5Si (N52) keeps throwing up the following code, which returns after resetting:

2E84 BSD electric coolant pump : missing.

Before I fit a new pump (Its on 70K, so probably due one), has anyone seen this code (no other codes show)?

It has never overheated and sits perfectly in the centre of the temp gauge even on the hottest of days.

Water level has stayed normal for the last 2 years.

Many thanks...
Dave.

I've seen BSD codes before on an alternator. Something to do with it not being exactly compatible and upsetting the DME. Though it sworked fine and didn't put any lights on.
If your water pump is original I wouldn't expect that, but if it's been changed before, maybe?

Pretty sure the alternator, and pump is original, and its now got a new battery in as well. I seem to remember getting this code about a year ago, (and forgot about it, as has never had any overheating).
Strange....!

Try cleaning any connectors to the waterpump with electrical contact cleaner, fixed my bsd fault that I had with my alternator, it all worked and charged the battery etc but the car kept throwing a bsd signal fault for the alternator but this is on an m54 engine,

Thanks,
Certainly from experience, try the simple things first!! I will probably change the pump anyway, but if it is a wiring issue, would rather know up front.
Dave.

Going to bump this thread as I've just become the proud owner of a 2007 E86.

Ran a scan on the car this morning and had a few error codes come up, one of which was this BCD 2E84 code.
According to the chap I bought it from, it went in last week to have the water pump and thermostat replaced due to a fault with the thermo. I have receipts to validate this.

Is it possible that the replacement/installation caused the code and it was just never cleared?

Apologies for the noob question here as well, but I'm new to all of this, should I reset all codes and see what comes back as a starter for 10?

Welcome.
Do the reset first yes.
But also find out what make of water pump was fitted, in case it was a cheapo one that doesn't talk to the car properly.

Thanks for the reply! Okay, can confirm I cleared all codes, went for a short run to the shops and back retested and so far so good, no codes.
Just looking through the invoice for the work that was done, looks like they cleared the fault log after replacing, so I'll have to keep checking to see if it comes back.

According to Autodoc, the part is OEM (part# BM11517586925)
