290's Tyre Setup (Winter - E85)

Hello everyone :)

Ive managed to bag a bargain set of 290's, the intention is to run them as winters later this year.

I believe im limited to 225 / 45 / 17 and run a square setup, but I was curious to see if anyone else has been able to experiment with the setup a bit?

Also interested in how people have found winters in general on the Z4. I havent run winters on a RWD for at least a decade so it would be interesting to know what I can expect, given there will be a dynamics change anyway going to a smaller wheel / tyre combo.

I’ve got the same wheels with Michelin cross climate tyres, I’ve not experienced a harsh winter since getting them but swap the wheels over anyway just in case. Going from 19’s to 17’s the ride quality is brilliant with a lot more compliance from the tyres, they also make the car feel more agile

So which winter tires did you end up buying?

The new Michelin Cross Climate 2 are the ones to fit, these are an all season tyre, with the M + S symbol so suitable for snow and ice. Wet breaking and steering are much better than a full winter and are better suited to milder winter climates like the UK.
