28i Reampping

Hi guys,

My sister has a 2014 28i and is looking to remap it. I have a lot of knowledge on the N54 platform but no the 2l turbos.
As far as I have looked there seems to be nothing like a MHD or JB4 available?
Where is the best place to get a remap or what is available?
Based in East Sussex.

Appreciate any help!

Hello

Not my area of expertise but I am sure some polite knowledgeable members will be along soon ... to help with your query

I have looked into this and have some correspondence on the options and costs, benefits from Racechip, superchips and Regal auto sport.

Happily share with you if you PM me your email

I haven't done it myself yet as been too busy with other things so far but am seriously looking at the Racechip option as its plug and play and seems to get good reviews across tinterweb when I googled it to death

Also had some advice from other members on here who may pop in soon with feedback no doubt.

Hi and welcome. There has been quite a few topics on this and twin turbo has his 28i remapped. I'm sure it's actually a JB4 he has so not sure why you think that not an option? If you search remap in the search facility it will bring up many replies but some more tailored towards the 2.0L 4 cylinder engines.

It's covered a bit in this topic too with some figures posted by twin turbo http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84351

And James why do you have to post nothing of any value? Are you trying to get your post count up? Surely you could have suggested the search facility for starters as its a very topical subject in the E89 section.

I have searched quite a bit on google and not had much luck, as for JB4 I used to run a JB4 and at the time there was nothing for the N20 platform. I now know they do one for the N20, however it is not to say it's the best option.
For instance the MHD is (im my opinion) a lot better than a JB4 and costs a 1/4 of the price of a JB4!
But thanks for your feedback, I guess I was being a bit lazy with my searching :scratchhead:

I believe twin turbo said if he was doing it again he would use racechips over the JB4.

As its a 2014 car it is still under warranty so I assume your sister is happy with the fact that a remap whilst in warranty would be bmws get out of jail card if anything with the engine went wrong? However I believe racechips offer a 2 year warranty, what that covers, I'm not sure.

performance torque near Wolverhampton would be a good choice. £499 with rolling road before and after. I think they remap to your specific car. My mini cooper S was great after a remap from them.

Yea I'm leaning towards the racechip, but is it safe to run 300+ hp without a uprated IC or downpipes on the N20?
As for warranty, mine went in for a warranty job with cat less downpipes intake etc and they never mentioned a word :D

Hi,

You rang my lord?

When I installed my JB4 - there was no other option available.

Well first question do you just want to keep it to stage 1 or go for stage 2 tune?

As you probably know the JB4 has some nice features over any other device, reading/deleting error codes - quite easy install but you need to splice cables in the canbus. I have the JB4 connect - so I can change settings via my iphone and get time information. Bit of an gimik really, but useful when needed. If you want to go to stage 2 JB4 has the advantage as it will delete the CEL codes from the downpipes. I dont think racechips does this.

A limitation of the Z4 its from the E range and not the latest F range - you need to ensure what route you go down the Z4 is supported, as there are limited upgrade options available - i know as its so frustrating.

Only benefit of induction kit - will be the acoustic sound - as the airflow in the N20 is fine no issues.

I be surprised to getting 300bhp without downpipes - currently I am running stage 1 and getting 285bhp via an rolling road (2 years ago) - however from virtual dyno just over 300 bhp (last month). But planning going to stage 2 so an extra 15bhp and 20 lbs torque.

One of the main benefits of the JB4 is its development, as I had one in my 335i - but the Z4 there is little development.

Racechips comes with an sealed unit, unlike the JB4, which I have located in the DMU. JB4 comes with no warranty protection but said earlier racechips does - and that gives some peace of mind.

Performance wise, its as quick as an 335i however an 135iM is quicker an pull away.

A alternative is AFe Scorcher Programmer Upgrade - N20/N26 - F30 320i, 328i, F32 428i, F22 228i, E84 X1, F10 528i

Thanks for the write up! Definitely not going to be splicing the cables as and given the fact the Racechip gives a guarantee on the engine is good.
She would never play around with any of the JB4 features anyway.
Here is a link to the Racechip (I'm guessing you have seen it before anyway) claiming 66 hp increase which is 311 hp.
Having a browse on the n54tech forum in the N20 section to see about reliability etc
