28i MPG going up

Latest fill 39.1 mpg.

Its just going up, even though this time I have done a few faster runs which normally pull the mpg down on the 30i.

This time at 371 mile mark it only took 43.1l to fill up instead of the normal 48.4l.

Instead of a fill up every week of 48l with the 30i I am averaging less than 3 a month, with this fill up only 43l for 371 miles.

So slow run in period I was 34 to 35 mpg, which I was happy with, now faster fun up at 39mpg.

mate at work has just got a 3.0l coupe and hes moaning at 26. Told him a few tricks and its now at 29. That was the same for my old 30i with careful driving, and having fun soon dropped it back to 26.

Dont get me wrong if I drive hard it soon goes down. But once up to speed then saves petrol for the the next sprint.

But I have ventured out on a few days to work where I can push it harder 60mph hilly twitching country roads and in the 30i would be 26mpg and it seems this would drop to 35mpg according to tank level drop and obc mpg. So I would have expected this last top up to be lower than last time where it was all flatter slower run 40 to 50mph little gear change . But no its been absorbed. Im so confused. The tank level was dropping quicker but then seemed to slow down compared to last time.

depends on your driving profile of course but my 28i gives me around 33mpg. that's according to the onboard computer, maybe I should try calculating it myself as you have done.

my driving profile is mainly urban with the odd long trip maybe once a month, i'm reasonably happy with 33mpg. I did calculate consumption on a trip once when I first had the car about a year ago and got 40mpg which I thought was brilliant!
