275 on CSL rears?

Recommended tyre size for the oem CSL rears is 265/30/19.
Compared to the original tyre size (255/40/18) there is quite a big circumference difference of -3%.
Additionally, when looking at the fitment of the 265 on the 9.5j rim they are a bit streched, so I was wondering why 275 is not a more popular choice? :-?

I can't say I've noticed a stretched look with the 265/30s, as you say they were the OEM fitment for the wheels. Some tyres of the same size are much narrower than others across the manufacturers, Falkens for example were a very narrow tyre when compared to a Michelin I found.

Having experimented quite a bit with tyre sizes when I first got the car I would say that the OEM CSL tyre sizes are just about perfect for the Z4M. I tried 275 on the rear but it wrecked the handling for me, the car was twitchy and felt unstable at high speed. Despite the fact that they were brand new I swapped them over for 265s very quickly and the car was immediately back to its best. I know others on here have said they used 275s without issue but that's what I found.

I have Falken 452's on mine (came with the wheels) and there is some stretch. Not stupid amount, but enough to consider 275's if all tyres came up the same.

True, its a minor detail but I noticed that my fronts are slightly more 'square' since they are 235/35/19 on a 8j rim (I have CS fronts).
Putting 275 on the rears would make them just as square (looks nice) and also reduce the circumference difference with the originals (-3% -> -2%) so I thought win-win situation but your comment about the handling is very good to know, this of course is very important.
