just looking into some new 18" wheels and the rears are 9.5 inch width so was wondering if 265/35/18 would be ok to go on? theres very little differnce in circumference and diameter (>1%) but dont know if theres a huge differnce in "feel" on the road? has anyone go these and is it a bad idea? just them size tyres are cheaper too :D

What's your engine size? You'll see more traction and less slip from the rear tires. If they're considerably heavier and larger than your existing wheels/tires you might see a drop in performance and crashier ride.

I put some 205/55/16 tyres on for winter. They are ace!! Much better ride, more progressive and a lot nicer to drive. Thinking about swapping my 18" summer ellipsoids for a set of 17" come spring time. I would steer well clear of a 265 myself. Would tramline like a...... well, a tram! :P

I'm running 265/30/19s on the rears on a 9.5 width with no issues. Having put these on in place of runflats I can only say what a vast improvement there has been.

Standard-fit Roadster S rears are 265/30R19's on a 9.5J rim (non-RFT's). So, fit they most definitely will :) The Alpina has a slightly more compliant ride than most Z4's, mostly due to the tyre choice they made as the suspension is (unusually) pretty much std Z4-fayre.

They'll fit but it depends on the offsets the Alpina wheels have compared to the ones the original poster mentioned.

ga41 i have a 3ltr with 18s 255/35/18 on rear. Im guessing it will be fine as it is only 6mm more in diameter but was curious if anyone says its not a good idea. but good point about the extra weight. would a 255/35 section be ok on a 9.5" wide wheel? im sure the standard 18" rear is 8.5" (fronts 8") so that extra 1" wider might make the alloys stick out well more then the tyres.

265 on 9.5 will be fine. You need to check your offsets though, have a read here and use their offset calculator to see if it might stick out too much or not. http://www.1010tires.com/wheeloffsetcalculator.asp and http://www.1010tires.com/tech.asp?type=wheels#offset

I'm guessing you wont see much difference in ride quality since you're already on 18" wheels but you *may* notice a drop in in-gear performance if your new wheels are considerably heavier although with the 3.0 i dont think it'll be anything to write home about. Also for comparison, the Michelin PS2 in 265/35/18 weighs 1lb heavier than the same tire in 255/35/18.

Can you post a link to the wheels you 're considering with details of offsets etc as it will be easier to give you the definitive answer.

265/35-18 on the rear works just fine as I ran that size for year's on my 2 previous Z4's.

Running 265/30/19 on my rears with non RFT....I believe the consensus is that the overall ride is improved over RFT options, better grip in the dry but in wet/damp conditions the rear is out at anything above 10mph around a bend it seems with a vast amount of tramlining...

However, the look sweet along with big alloys...do it!!

here the link to the wheels i fancy.....

offset for front is 38 and the rear is 42, i dont have a lcue what my current set up is, all i know is that they are the 108s.

Your offsets are currently 47 and 50.
Those wheels will fit fine with either 255 or 265 tyres on the rears
