265/30/19 vs 265/35/19 tyres

So I bought my Z4MR 2 months ago and it came with 19" CSL reps. I'm aware the handling is worse on 19" wheels but it really is atrocious, all over the road.

Currently has Vredesteins at the front and almost new Hankook Ventus V12 Evo at the back.

I believe a car like the Z4M deserves top quality tyres so I'm going to fit either Supersports or Yoko AD08R but I'm trying to decide which profile to go for. My thinking is going up to a 35 profile from a 30 will improve the ride and handling (slightly) at the cost of aesthetics (i don't want it to look like a monster truck) and increased gearing. Can anyone offer some views?
 
that 35 aspect ratio MIGHT be alittle too tall depending on fitment, can you post more info on the wheel offsets?
 
If it's truly bad then it's probably more than the tyre profile....might need a geo to get it set up as it should be.

I've gone 35 front 30 rear on my oem set but haven't fitted them yet.
 
don't forget if you go to a semi slick they are usually considerably wider than a normal summer tyre.... my 265 rear semi slick measures in a 273mm across due to the square shoulders.
 
The wheels came with the car so I can't tell the offset without taking them off the car and looking for stamps, I'll try and do that in the week. To be honest I'm probably leaning towards PSS, I had AD08R on my MR2 roadster and they were sublime but £200 per set more than PSS :cry:

I really need to be the geo done and have the steering bushes inspected too :)
 
I'm running OEM CSL tyre sizes, so 265/30 19s on the rear. No issues. Sure it tramlines a little more than my old 3.0i roady, but I quite enjoy having to stay focused on the move. She demands lots of attention 8)

I think if I understand the OP correctly he's considering moving the CSL size to a 265/35 profile rear and 235/40 front (as opposed to 30/35) on CSLs. I have 'heard' from someone who I do think knows what they're talking about having owned one of these that it's a very good shout. As beedub says though, with reps you should really look into your offsets and camber as most sets of reps do not have the same offset as OEM CSLs and you may find you have rubbing issues. Your speedo will also be a fair way out if choose to go that route.

Edit: as said check your alignment and also your RTABs as these are the most likely cause of being 'all over the road' not the tyres imo.
 
I checked the comparison of the standard z4m rear tyre size 255 40 r18

265 35 r19
Difference in diameter: + 1.06% Actual diameter change: + 7mm

For 265 30 r19
Difference in diameter: -2.87%Actual diameter change: -19mm

We recommend a MAXIMUM of +/- 2.5% difference

I did post about this before in a separate thread... however, many run the CSL package with no issues (obviously speedo will be a bit out). Going to a 265/35, 235/40 may well cause rubbing issues, so if you want a slightly smoother ride a 255/35, 225/40 on CSLs may be a better/safer option.

"Depending on what you are after the CS wheel package could be considered more desirable. It runs a slightly higher profile than the CSL spec. CS/CSL rears are identical (same part number in real oem), fronts as stated are 1/2" narrower at 8" (same as OEM z4 spec). These run 225/40 and 255/35 as opposed to 235/35 and 265/30 for CSL (although you can safely fit that spec to CS rims if desired). OEM Z4 is 225/45 & 255/40 on 18". If you're driving is more road focused than track then the CS option is worth considering IMO.

Rears both: 19x9.5 ET27

overall tyre diameter with both OEM and CS spec is 661mm
with CSL spec it decreases to 642mm a -2.87% difference
