You've both got me sold. Currently have the Potenzas all round and the car tramlines like mad, especially when its cold outside.
I thought it could be that some of the bushes needing to be replaced as its knocking on the door of 115k.

I've had a succession of PS2's and PS3's on my 330D for the past few years and I cannot fault them.
Think I will start squirreling away the cash to change to the PS4's in the next few months.

I'd be tempted to get the bushes checked out prior to any tyre change as you don't want any funny wear on the new ones. If you cant/don't want to do it yourself it's well worth half an hours labour at a decent indie or specialist to get them to put it up on a ramp and take a quick look. Especially when you consider the cost of four new tyres.

That's typical costco tyre bay crap to be honest. For example they usually won't entertain non runflats on a originally runflat equipped car or a slight change of profile sidewall or a 10mm tyre change etc Quoting health and safety bollocks. Either buy elsewhere, or get them fitted elsewhere, or failing that just take them the wheels and get them to fit whatever tyre your after. Ive done that before! To be honest these days unless one of their money back promotions is on there's usually better value elsewhere anyway.

Never had a problem with my 2 local Costco's Had non run flats fitted to misses mini and no star rated tyres fitted to my M3, I have found Costco one of the best tyre fitters I have used to be honest, take care and do a good job and great prices.

Manchester and Oldham are the two I have experience of or have heard bad things about. My most recent direct experience was at Manchester where they wouldn't entertain m tyre sizes for my zed in late 2016. They cited the issues of runflat to non runflat and the sidewall profile change, even though I told them my car didn't have runflats to start with and I'd sign a disclaimer etc. They stated they weren't allowed to go away from oem spec. That said they were quite happy for me to either buy the tyres and have then fitted elsewhere or if I brought just the wheels in and told them they were off a m they fit what I wanted!

Then just a few months back a colleague told me how the Oldham store wouldnt let him switch from 235 to the cheaper 225 width on his scirocco

I think I may have had to sign the paperwork on the Mini to be fair saying that I have gone against OEM, but they fitted them no issues, I even spoke to them before ordering the tyres to check it wouldn't be an issue

I was thinking that myself after reading your experience. Either that or we just were unlucky and the staff members were either lacking experience or simply jobsworths

I put Avon ZZ5 on front a few months back. And sure I got a quote for rears as well at the time, however now I need them they are not available ( if they ever were) in 255/40/18. Any suggestions for rears to go with the avons now, or maybe put 255/35 or 45 18 on instead???

You could also go down the 245 40 18 route

Had Michelin PS4 fitted last weekend and they have transformed the car from the Bridgestone runflats. A lot softer tread and sidewall giving much more feel through the steering and loads of confidence wet or dry. They were crap in the snow this week though....
Most expensive tyres I've ever purchased but so worth it. The look of the sidewall is nice too if that matters.

Yes it's fine 245 or 255 are generally regarded to be the best size for a 9 inch rim on the rear of an M as standard. You could actually go as little as 235 or as much as 265 if you wanted to and still be fine. As a bonus the 245 40 18 is usually alot cheaper than its equivalent 255 40 18. Circa £115 instead of £170 for michelin ps4.

The tyres I have on at the moment are awful fitted by previous owner to get through the mot as he was selling so no point spending money on decent rubber. They are hifly and they came 42nd out of 47 in a 2018 test so grip is poor and tramlining and road noise is high

Be aware that the MP4S is a very different tyre to the MP4.

The MP4S has replaced the MPSS.

The MP4 has replaced the MP3

Be aware that the MP4S is a very different tyre to the MP4.

I can't get the 4s anyway as I'm running 18s. The pilot sport 4 tyre will feel like a track day tyre in the dry compared too what I have on at the moment

. Especially as just had a seized brake caliper so having to spend on that. Caused by not using it and it sitting outside during the bad weather for 3 weeks. My guess anyway!
