255/225 or 265/235 on 19" CSL reps?

As above, what would / did you do and why?

Have ordered some CSL reps:

19x8.5 ET40 front
19x9.5 ET40 rear

For my 3.0 si sport coupe. Now I need tyres. Am 90% decided on Eagle F1 Asy 2s, but do I go:

225/35/19 front
255/30/19 rear

or

235/35/19 front
265/30/19 rear

I'm on standard sport suspension, but may be persuaded to Eibachs if it looks too 4x4. Naturally, I don't want any rubbing either way.

Cheers,

Tim

I went for 225/35/19s front and 265/30/19s rear
This set up keeps the rolling radius almost the same front and rear and also avoids any rubbing on the front as I am lowered on eibachs.
This is a personal choice for the reasons above. A lot of members are running 235/35/19s on the front with 265/30/19s rear without issues.

Bigger always looks better, but if you like to slide a car then your are moving the "limit" into a higher speed bracket, but more importantly imo, if you "over tyre" the rear, as many do, you move the front to rear balance making the car understeer more.

Thanks chaps. Hadn't considered 265/225, although yeah, definitely don't want to reduce front axle grip / promote understeer. I'll turn the DTC off and kick the arse out leaving a slow corner once in a blue moon but I'm too much of a fanny to properly slide a car, so more grip is fine. I'm leaning towards 265/235 then if it'll not cause rubbing, as I agree bigger looks better.

I have CSL reps ET40 with 235 and 265 on my 3.0 si roadster with standard sport suspension. No issues on the rear but the fronts have rubbed holes in the wheel arch liners both sides. I'm considering 225's when the front tyres need replacing.

You are playing with small margins when you fit wider wheels and tyres.
If you fit 235/35/19s on the fronts you will need a lower offset to move the wheel out or in your case fit spacers. i would suggest if you fitted 5mm spacers, which would give you an equivalent offset of et35, you would probably be ok on standard suspension.
If you want to lower on eibachs as I said in my first post you will need to fit 225/35/19s and still fit 5mm spacers to guarantee no rubbing.

Thanks again. Small margins, yeah, after reading a billion different threads with lots of very similar setups and some folks getting rubbing and some not, I'm seeing that. Hadn't thought of small spacers up front, good suggestion. As my preference in terms of aesthetics and handling is 265/235 I think I'm going to go with that, and look at the spacer option if I do get rubbing. I'm not going to know if I want to go down the Eibach route until I've seen it with these new wheels on, as I've not been able to decide from looking at pics of other peoples', so I guess I'll cross that bridge if and when I come to it.

Right well, after all that and an evening's deliberations I changed my order on the wheels to a different set:

19x8 ET34 front
19x9 ET37 rear

Visually they should be basically identical in terms of poke and how much they'll fill the arches, with the lower offsets negating the narrower rims, but they'll leave more space inside the arch and being narrower not need wider tyres, so I've gone with 225/35 and 255/30. Whole package should also be lighter, and tyres slightly cheaper. Went for the F1 Asy 2s with 'MFS' rim protection. Found a local place to do Hunter road force balance and four wheel alignment. Sorted. Should be good.

Thanks chaps for the input.

That'll work.

Thanks! I'm very pleased with them. Fitment is just right and I've noticed no rubbing as yet. Ride is also, as everyone says, so, so much better off the runflats, even with the lower profiles. And noticeably quieter.

Rims: £540 delivered
Tyres: £536 delivered
Fitting, Hunter road force balancing and four wheel alignment: £149
Total: £1,225

So my bank account is hurting, but good deals all round I think.
