Same one? What a coincidence.

My car has been playing up, random alarm going off, sometimes transmission light comes on and a restart of the car fixes it. Sometimes the car struggles to start. I don't think all of which are separate issues as extensive reading suggests all of them can be caused by a flat battery.

It's got some cheap lion battery in it at the moment (previous owner). So I hope this powerful bosch sorts it out.

AGM is for stop start cars, I take it the new zed has stop/start in it?

Well some do I believe but AGM is also for cars where they reuse energy generated from the brakes. BMW fit AGM batteries to all BMWs due to their 'efficent dynamics'. Even my E88s had AGM batteries and neither of them had start/stop due to being autos.

Only the AGM batteries are recommended for the E89

Angie , my 2.3i has brake energy regen , assume its a cost option & as i know you know your stuff on spec's
Is it considered a positive or more a fashion trend ?

Exactly the same! Alarm etc etc. But mine hasn't been used for 3 months, and recharged it to no avail.

Mine didn't have a Lion battery, I discovered something far better... Upon closer inspection, and with an element of embarrassment in admitting it, it has the ORIGINAL factory battery in it! 12 years old - got to be a record?!

Thats nothing to be embarrassed about. I had a golf from new and 8 years later 1 of the tyres still had tread on it but was starting to crack. Continentals unbelievable had done like 90,000 miles

Hi there
I am looking to buy a Bosch S4 battery for my BWM Z4 Coupe 3.0. I am confused by all the different versions of the S4 (075 etc.).

I am looking to get from Euro Car Parts - could someone please provide me with the Bosch S4 serial number which works with my Coupe?

Thank you in advance.

So if only one tyre still had tread left then the other 3 tyres were completely bald then :D

Sorry Mr Wilks, I've just seen this. I believe that brake regen is standard part of all bmws these days under their 'efficent dynamics' program. To be honest I can't really see how much energy it really generates BMW think you can get up to 3% more fuel efficiency as the alternator decouples when deaccelerating, braking and coasting so it's not drawing power from the engine and instead taking it from the wheels and brakes.

The AGM batteries are supposedly designed to charge in this manner but if the power drops then the battery will charge in the usual old style fashion when driving and using the power from the engine whilst accelerating etc.

There isn't that much choice in AGM batteries and they all have pretty high cold cranking amps and capacity, unlike the mass of batteries out there for the E85/E86.

I presume that there is probably issues using a standard type battery with this set up and it may possibly fail to charge or charge correctly.

In cynic mode I would think it is another way for BMW to get your trousers down and spank you!

My E87 123d needed a new AGM battery - best part of £300 by the time the OBD was told it had a new one fitted so that the stop/start knew what to do - then the starter motor cried enough (so another £500ish bill)!

Thankfully my E86 doesn't have any of that nonsense.
