23i performance

have had the 11 plate 23isdrive for a couple of months now ( has done 9k miles from new) and must say i find its performance dissapointing compared to my old e85 3.0 ( sadly written off after spinning after hitting standing water during rain storm) I am beginning to wish i had gone for a late model 3.0si instead.
does any one else find this or is mine perhaps a one off

I owned an e85 3.0se for a while, and test drove the 23i as an option when buying. The 23i is slower, there's no getting away from it. Its a lower powered engine and a heavier car. There's not much you can do to change this other than to upgrade to a larger engine unfortunately.

Its horses for courses of course, for many, the 23i is fine for them.

I have a 23i and find it perfectly fine, fast enough for what I want/need and a nice noise, not sure what the 3.0 in the E85 are like but I presume quicker.

I did move from a 2.0 TDI 140 Audi so that may be a reason I find it fast

I agree plenty fast enough for most driving and I moved from a 123dcoupe before although on paper it was faster in the mid range I find the 23i nicer to drive not as hard on my arse and as my age is 58yrs young maybe I dont drive flat out all the time but have owed plenty of fast cars and think this is relaxing to drive it brings a smile to my face every time i here it growl

Everything is relative but to quote an American phrase

"There's no substitute for cubic inches"

or a tuned twin turbo

The E89 23i is carrying over 100kg more weight than the E85 3.0i, which is going to blunt things considerably, I'd say...

the main difference I notice is the pulling power especially when in 5th or 6th around the 50mph mark didnt need to change down in the e85 but find i need to drop to 3rd to get it to move with any haste as i have discovered when overtaking a couple of times I am 56 so no boy racer

Its fair to say you have to work it a bit harder to get the best from the 2.5 but thats half the fun of it my123d had endless pull but I find the z much more fun to drive and as said not so hard and I have it in sport mode a lot of the time. :driving:

When I test drove the zed it was the 2.3, I too felt it lacking, which pushed me towards the 3.0. Yes I would have loved the 3.5 with DCT but just felt that it wasn't worth so much more than mine.

I came from 2.0 sport so it is a bit quicker than that
I also drive bikes and I find most cars slow no matter what
Try driving a litre sports bike with 180bhp and trust me ,,most cars cannot compare.
So back to the point they are both pretty slow but they look the dogs balls :D and form me that what it's all about.

I've had my 2.3i for three years and have looked into having it tuned as I too wanted a little more grunt but unfortunately I was told that this was one of only a habdful of engines that they couldn't tweak!!
I'm now looking at the 2.8i and having test driven it, it has the extra power the 2.3i was missing from time to time but at £4K extra to the 2.0i I don't know if it's worth spending the cash on more addtions and having the 2.0 tweaked as i'm told that engine can be tuned!? :dizzy:

That says pretty much everything :)

We test drove a 23i as the dealer didn't have a demonstrator with the 3.0 or 35i. It felt swift enough to me if moved through the box with urgency. But its as others have stated its heavier than the old model with less power.
