I removed the trunking from the air intake to the filter box mainly to stop any flood water swamping the engine and filter as it has done once before, but got away with.
A unintended consequence is that now there is some intake noise which is actually quite pleasant.
I can't help now wanting to crack the windows open and listen to the noise when i put my foot.
Got to be the cheapest mod i have done to the car.
Also seems to run better, although that might be the new spark plugs fitted.

So you have an induction leak. That will likely be messing with your ECU, mixtures etc. Best to get it put back right.

It’s not really a leak, it’s still breathing through the same pipe work minus the sound deadening piece over the grills.
The ecu should still give a proper afr under those conditions, so no harm should result

Yes just by-passing that piece that acts like a Hoover above the radiator. I suspect removing the part it might be breathing slightly easier as you haven't got the friction of that flattened air intake for the air to be draw through. Easily reversible, but won't be.

Maybe try adding a K&N filter as well, should sound even better.
What kind of noise is it? Whistle or more of a roar??/
