23i 2D06 MAF code

Good morning, all. My 2011 E89 23i has developed a frustrating issue and I'm wondering if anyone can help...

For a few weeks, I've been experiencing a slight misfire, typically in the 1500 to 2000 rpm rev range. This is happening while crawling forward in slow traffic, or while coasting along at 30ish in 5th gear. The car has also cut out a few times while stationary at traffic lights and, occasionally, the idle has been a bit temperamental. After cutting out, it starts back up again without hesitation.

I took the car to an independent BMW specialist and the diagnostics machine is throwing up a solitary 2D06 code, relating to the MAF system. The guys have looked over the car and have said that the engine seems to think it's getting a lot more air than it actually is, but they can't find any problems with the MAF or related parts/systems. Also, the external temperature is reading -48, but the temperature on the dash is correct. They're reluctant to replace the MAF, as it's fairly pricey and they're not convinced that it'll fix the issue. They updated the engine software, but this has made no difference. A new control module has been suggested, but currently, there's a lot of head scratching going on...

Apologies if this info is vague, but I'm wondering if anyone on here has experienced similar issues and can make a suggestion?

Thanks

Hi Poppino. Did you ever manage to sort this as my 2006 2.5si is doing the same? Had a load of expensive work done with no result.
